Ambushed by a 721

You are a sick man, Guy. Very, very sick. I only say this because I know I am too.

Agree. This was a completely unplanned relapse... Sigh...

Great, now I've got another rifle that needs a better scope! Sheesh. How come a guy who rarely gets more than one deer in a season has so many rifles to hunt with?

It is a sickness; that's for sure. However, it is a fine way to go.

Heck, I haven't even hunted big game the last two years, and I seem to have rifles breeding in my safe like rabbits!

BK,

I thought it was scopes you had breeding! Now, I learn that it is rifles! Man, that is one dangerous safe.

You aren't kidding. I can't wait to see your range day BK.. Should be a day or two's good reading. Scotty

The 721 is a fine rifle. I picked out a rem 722 in .300 sav for my buddies first deer rifle. The action is smoooooth and it shoots! He'll never give it up. They don't make em like that anymore. Nice rifle, enjoy.

Looked at one of those when I was young and broke. I wanted it bad, but just didn't have the doucats.

Was making the rounds of the gunshops yesterday, actually handing out info on gun safes and gun locks as part of my job. When out of nowhere came a really nice old .30-06 Remington 721. Dang, didn't see that coming. I only had $50 in my pocket, so it's still there at the shop, with my name on it. Decent straight grain walnut with good checkering. Some 3-9x not-so-hot scope on it. Didn't care about the scope, a straight 6x Leupold is going to find a way onto it eventually.

Bore looks good. I like the all-steel bottom metal. Really a nice older rifle. They were made from 1948 - 1961/62. I sure hope this one turns out to be a shooter. Particularly with 180 gr Noslers... Just what I needed, another older rifle project...

Photos later, when I get it home. I'm a sucker for old Remington rifles and for the .30-06 in particular. Sigh...
I have a Remington 721 300 H&H that I inheraited from my father. It is a shooter and action is smooth. I loaded a 200gr. Nosler Partition behind 66.0gr. of H4831sc and a CCI 250 primer. Now just waiting for this up comming elk season.

I have a Model 70, .30-06 since I live on the border and don't want to be confused with Canadian folks. However, I must say that since I bought a .270 for deer, the .30-06 does not get out much.

Oldtrader3,

There are a few of those 30-06s that have managed to slip across the border. It is unfortunate as it confuses us as to who is a Canuck and who is an American.

Don't forget you may have to send the rifle in or take it to Portland to have the safety fixed or upgraded. They had issues with that model. My friend took is to Oregon last year to have his done. I tried to a link to Remington's information on it but failed. YOu could copy and paste the below into your browser.

I can not wait to hear a range report on it. I regret selling mine big time!

Hopefully I'll be able to go pick it up in a few days. Have been working all the hours the shop has been open since I put the $50 down on the rifle, and unable to go pay it off and pick it up.

Plan is to clean it, make sure everything is tight, then go put some of my "standard" .30-06 ammo through it for a range test. Looking forward to it.

Guy
