So while working on the ranch today, I found couple of brown elk sheds which was nice.
I was fixing fence and went to drive my 4-wheeler under a tree branch which happened to snap off and tattoo a lightning bolt on my right bicep. I was pleased.

On the way back I saw two snakes (neither were rattlers) and one coyote. The shot was about 300 yards distance and there was a 10-15 mph crosswind. Coyotes caught flatfooted out in the open typically don’t hang around long so I guessed the wind, held into it and fired. The coyote was laying dead, shot through the heart when I drove up to him.
While I personally prefer the extra spit provided by the .220 Swift, I have seen great success, especially on coyotes and chucks with the more ubiquitous and popular .22-250 Remington. This particular rifle belonged to my best childhood friend who died of cancer back in 2014 at the ripe old age of 29. My son is named after him, and this rifle goes with me almost everywhere this time of year. A daily reminder of my old friend and hunting pal now gone on to glory.
