Buddy drew a antelope buck tag here in Colorado, his rifle took a digger a few weeks before the hunt so I offered up my .300. We went out first light opening day and found the buck we scouted out and got all set up. Took the atmospherics, range, and wind. And let her rip. Video showed up pretty good too through the swaro and phone scope. Enjoy!

I've been holding off on this one, but can't anymore. Please don't think I'm being rude or disrespectful, as that is not my intent. Your opinion is yours, mine is mine, simply that. I just want to add my opinion to this thread to be considered by any who wish to emulate this feat.

IMHO, game animals should not be taken at this range, or anything approaching it. Save the amazing shooting for steel plates and Tannerite. My problem is not with using gear to extend the practical range of engagement. If you can reliably hit the kill zone with the first shot at range "X", go for it. My problem is that 1034 yards is well beyond that distance regardless of your skill level and gear. This would be a 50/50 shot at best with Chris Kyle behind the rifle. I don't say this as a keyboard commando that apes the lines about 300 yards I've read in hunting mags. I say this as an avid high power shooter who fires thousands of rounds a year in varying conditions to 1000 yards at known distance and competes with and spots for some of the best F-class and Palma shooters in the country in practice sessions. Regardless of gear, when you get past 400, 500 with the real heavies, the gremlins start to take over. Even with near perfect conditions, I've seen national champion F class shooters throw a lot of 7s and 8s with their sighters. Those would translate into wounded game in the field. In this scenario, the first miss hitting 1.5 to 2 MOA high proves my point. Even with optimized gear and conditions, this is just too far, and it's a lucky thing that first miss was high and not low, or there'd be a very nice antelope hobbling around the prairie on 3 legs. Once again, no disrespect intended, please take it to heart.

Great shot, that 300 sure accounts for a lot of animals.

Looks like a great prong Buck as well! Congrats to the hunter.

Dr Mike, what would the trajectory look like if I wanted to try this shot with my 348, with the 250 gr woodleigh ?

300winmag ----Heck of a shot, a bit out of my range

Hell of a shot regardless. That's a nice set up and excellent cartridge. Thank you for sharing.

Thanks guys, it was a great hunt.

Polaris, I don't take anything you said as disrespectful or anything, I respect your opinion and honesty. It's a long shot and i get your point. I shoot F-class and high power as well and know what you're saying. Wouldn't have taken the shot had the wind not been near non existent as it was. I will say there was fur missing from the first shot, and the correction from the first to second shot was 1/4 MOA down. Believe it or not, if I'd have plugged the azimuth (135 degrees) into the program, it drops the dope from 21.75 to 21.50. Thanks again for sharing your thoughts.

That right there is about as gentlemanly response as you could ask for.

That danged 300 Win Mag is a pretty stand up guy in my book.

LOL !!!!!! Thanks Fotis. What do you think the odds are of me hitting the target at 1000 yards ? You can see why I always hunt under 300 yards---I have no choice LOL

Well done Fotis, thanks, I will ask to have it printed out when I get someplace that has printer and hang it on the wall

I also agree with Scotty and April about 300winmag and polaris, nicely done fellows. I have been on forums that the fur would fly for days, possibly weeks, for critiques made to posts
