My local range goes out to 300 but is 25 miles away. I am thinking about asking a farmer if I could shoot on his land. Has anyone here ever done that? I ask permission all the time to hunt on private land. Is it worth trying and are there any things I need to know before asking?

Stress safety, any benches/backstops ? Make sure he knows you will not leave any trash and are responsible for your actions. Plan on bringing any friends, ask permission in advance. Offer to help on the farm while you are there. Rick.

The range I go to is 40 miles away, and the land here is flat enough I would not feel safe shooting in most farmers' fields.

It might also help if you discussed access, (how to get in and out) backstops, etc. Timing, I have one close neighbor I do not shoot on their land but I try and plan my shooting around their schedule. So when they are working and the conditions are right, I shoot. You might also ask if there is anything you can help him with for a day or so, or even offer to pay a small fee for the access.

I shoot on private all the time, and head advice given.

I shoot on private land as well, but it is hunting club lands, so I pay for it, yearly.

I shoot at a shooting club range of which I am a member of and pay yearly. The only issue is that it is only out to 200 meters.
