High lung shot, the shock smashing the spine. I should imagine that the old boy dropped immediately. Excellent pictures. Where were you hunting?

Yep,he dropped on the spot.I like shooting them high because I don't want to have to chase or track them in the thorny South Texas brush.I was hunting south of Corpus Christi,Texas. Those 180gr Ballistic Tips are some tough bullets.I shot a stag last year with one out of my 300 Win Mag,breaking the onside shoulder and exiting behind the offside shoulder.I couldn't ask for a bullet to perform any better.

Yeah, that could be some tough country for tracking a wounded animal. I favour a high lung shot on animals in the thick bush. If they are in a prairie situation, I have some latitude, but in the bush...

You have yourself a 30-06 Magnum.
Nice work and congrats on the stag.

I also like the high lung; Rl 26 in an 06/180s; never shot a red stag however. Looks like it worked perfectly.

Took my 28" PacNor barreled 30-06 to the range today to try the Reloader 26 loads. This thing is a beast with the 28" barrel. The 63.5gr load of Reloader26 with a 180gr AccuBond clocked at 2992fps on my Magnetospeed and I tried 61.0grs of Reloader26 with a 200gr AccuBond and it clocked at 2815fps.Wow,great groups too.

Man, 2800+ with the 200 AB is really great stuff. I have been using SB6.5 with the 212 ELD for a touch over 2700 and have been extremely happy with that combo. Nice work!
