What is the point of the Ballistic Tip now that we have the AccuBond? They both have a min impact velocity of 1600fps. The BT has a max impact velocity of 3000fps whereas the AccuBond has no max. The AccuBond is every bit as accurate as the BT. Seems like the BT has nothing to offer except maybe a few pennies in your pocket with less performance.

Just checked prices at Grafs:

.30 cal 165 gr AccuBond = $22.99/50

.30 cal 165 gr B-Tip = $16.39/50

When a fellow shoots 500 rounds a year, that's a substantial savings! Also, for some things, like my typical mule deer hunting with a .308 Win, I'm very happy with something like the Ballistic Tip, which expands, fragments, and kills like lightning. I see the AccuBond as being more important for high velocity magnums against big tough animals like bull elk - where the AccuBond's integrity helps it hold together better and penetrate deeply for the kill.

For deer, I really like the ballistic tip! It simply destroys the heart & lungs when placed well. Years ago Nosler used to advertise it as the perfect deer bullet. I still believe it pretty much is. At least for my purposes.

I'm with Guy on this one. For deersize game, there's no reason to use a bonded core bullet. Ballistic Tip is a proven killer of deer. Coupled that with outstanding accuracy and higher ballistic coefficient; you've got yourself a winner.

I also agree that the BT is an excellent bullet for deer sized game.
The 7mm 140 gr BT kills deer like lighting.
The AB will work on deer but is designed for bigger game.
I think the BT is here to stay.

Because you DONT NEED a bonded bullet to kill deer, thats why!!!!!!!!!!

When you shoot upwards of 1000 rounds a year, that amounts to some savings, I'll tell ya that much...

The NBT is my favorite bullet and will continue to be so, although I'm getting a little skeptical of there prices as of lately myself...

When used within there limits, there good from pdogs to elk, what more can you ask for??? Dead is dead...

Absolutely! Additionally you really do not need an AccuBond for an antelope in 30-06 flavor? Not really, unless YOU CHOOSE to do so.

More of the same....I have no idea what the velocity was at impact but the 100 grn. BT I used on my pronghorn left the muzzle around 2800 fps, broke both shoulders and punched a hole through a lung before exiting. At 264 yards. It worked for me. A couple grains less powder and its also my most accurate 100 grn load. CL

Happier with BT's, why spend the extra money. Apart from that, how many deer rifles push a projectile over 3000fps anyway! The 55gr ballistic tips in my .22/250 are doing around 3700fps with no problem at all, so I don't know where this maximum of 3000fps has come from????

3000fps is the maximum "impact" velocity for the NBT's to perform reliably on deer size game. If its much past that, you wont get enough penetration on say a shoulder shot...Thats what it means...

My apologies, misread the statement and missed that it was the impact velocity stated. Either way I still think they're great projectiles and just also happen to be what my gun shoots best. LOL

Just like Remmy said, Steve is talking about impact velocity on big game. It's the Nosler way of saying that there's more appropriate bullet for your hyper velocity magnum than the BT.
