Bedding compound?

It is. I prefer steelbed, but this will do. Read the reviews.

I like Marine Tex. It is alot like steel bed. Thick like peanut butter so don't have to worry about it oozing into every little nook and cranny. Plain old carnuba floor wax works great as a release with it as well.

I read the reviews and it looks like it works.

I need to be honest. I am a little worried about doing this. I hope I don't make a mistake or a big mess out of this project.

Take your time read the instructions.

PS You tube is your friend!

I have been watching YouTube for the past few hours. One guy made it look really hard and detailed while others made it look better. When I go to start this adventure, I am going to start a new thread so I can ask questions and post pictures so I can get it right.

Devcon 10110 is the one you want. Much better than the one you linked to at Midway.

Same here..

Also, like Pat, I use paste wax to make sure the parts don't stick.

Heard good things about Devcon 10110. Although never tried it.. Always used Brownells Acraglass Gel, with great results.Lee

FYI I ran my own test once for release compounds using readily available waxes I had on hand as well as Kiwi neutral shoe polish. This included a wide variety of Meguiars waxes, regular carnauba, etc.

Would you believe that the Kiwi neutral shoe polish allowed for the easiest release of the Devcon? Me either. However, it's what I use now.

I've used about all of them lately with the exception of Marine Tex and Devcon 10110 is the best I've used.

Depends on the amount your bedding, how thin your bedding is, and how much waste you have. On average a pound should do 4 to 6.

I ordered mine from use-enco.com

Dr. Vette, are you using the plastic steel or the Devcon 10110?

10110, just like I said.
Devcon makes different products just like Chevrolet makes different cars.

You can do several rifles with 1 pound. I usually find that the open jars go bad before I use it all up. After a year you will find that the hardener gets a bit smelly, and the material itself is much more likely to get tiny lumps in it.

So, if you bed one and are successful think about which of your rifles is your next project. :)

Another +1 for Devcon 10110. It flat works. It would be nice if Devcon would produce a hobbyist quantity - about 1/3 pound or so. I dug on their website and you can't tell if one 'Plastic Steel' product is the same as another. Just not good clarity in their info. If they'd call the stuff in the little tubes 10110 as well then I'd be more confident in advising to get a couple packages of that stuff, but I can't!
