Only got 50 of these and replacements are hard to find. My buddy is hoping for a lucky load developement so I can give him 40 rounds of hunting ammo for this fall.
I'm thinking of loading 4 ea of 60.0 H4831 and setting the bullets .020" off the lands and .050" off the lands.
Are the odds of hitting paydirt decent? I also have re22, re19, and 7828 ssc but figured h4831 might be the magic pixy dust.

My best guess would be .060 off the lands. Last 2 rifles I loaded ab's with ended up having 2in 1out but still sitting around 1-1.5". I would still load a ladder from min charge to max with one cartridge of each charge. Make sure you don't hit pressure. Best guess go middle of the road charge. Still gonna be better off doin some load development. One shot one kill. Dont need 40 rounds to hunt with. Imo

Yes, H4831 works well with 130 AB for me. My load is 60.5gr H4831. Good choice.
Rl-22, R-19 and 7828 I would use with heavier bullets. 140-150.
Rl-22 works well with 150 grain bullets. My 130 Ab likes H4831. It goes togehter like bread and butter.

You are very likely to hit paydirt with 60 gr. of H-4831. Trying .020 of the lands to start is fine. I use ,.020 off the lands in one rifle and .100 in another rifle. The load your asking about is used by thousands of .270 shooters. Should work great.

I am shooting 130gr. ABs over to of 54.5grs. of IMR4350 out of my CDL it is shooting .5 @ 3050fps.
I believe OAL is 3.340". I will check that tomorrow for you:)!!

Blessings,
Dan

I'm finding somewhat better accuracy with a bit of jump to the lands. Fifty to sixty thousandths off the lands should work well for you.

My Winchester .270 Win has always liked the 130 AB and 55.0 grains of IMR 4350. You can go to 56.0 grains in most rifles before you enter Indian Territory. Mine is developing a sore case of throat erosion because the barrel is 64 years old and I have shot it a lot in the 40 years that I have owned this Super Grade. To compensate for the 60 fps that is missing with the sore throat, I am using Fed 215 Match Mag primers in this rifle load to pump it up a little.

Can't add much here... My Featherweight topped out at 59.5 grains H4831 with that bullet at about 2975 fps, good accuracy and devastating on whitetails. I think someone said on here once that if a bullet knew exactly when, where and how much to expand, it wouldn't have much on the AccuBond. That's been my experience as well.

As has also been noted, the 4350/RL19 burn rate is a sleeper in the .270. I've settled on H4350 with great, repeatable groups and just over 3K.

Good luck!

I'm with Mike here. 57-60 grains of H4831 should get it all done up. A few extra rounds to figure the load out is time well spent. Chances are a good 270 will make quick work anyhow.

I just spent some time at the range with the 130's trying to find the right amount of jump.

My load is 49.5 of IMR 4064 and the COL is 3.350. You can see it was darn near a 1/2 inch group. 3.355 was just a tad bigger, and it opened up quite a bit when I sat deeper than 3.350.

Good luck.

Thanks much to everyone. Looks like the "useable brass" I got is more like 28 rounds.
Thanks fotis for the offer of more bullets but I think we'll hit paydirt with what we have.
Don't mind if you guys keep the load sharing coming though!

Have you ever chronographed that load? I bet it recoils noticeably less than the standard 60 gr H 4831 load, it should be a great load for my wife

I have settled on Reloder 17 for my new Marlin X7 in .270 Win. I load 53.0 gr with a 130 gr Ballistic Tip for about 2880 fps out of the 22" barrel. Accuracy is good, and I probably could go to 54.0 gr and get up over 2900 fps. Has anyone tried Accurate 2700 in the .270 Win? A friend just gave me a pound, and I recall it worked well in a 30-06 with 150 gr bullets a few years back.
I am planning on loading the .270 Win with some of the older 130 gr Solid Base bullets. I save the Accubonds for my .270WSM.

Here's what I would load:

Win Brass
CCI 200 Primer
60.5gr H4831
magazine length

I have yet to see a decent .270 Win that will not shoot that load under an inch (with BT's)

Here is a few 130 BT,s. This group is with 60gr. of H4831 sc, cci-200,s and ww brass.

This is from my .270 Win, Model 70 (1949) with 130 gr Accubonds, 55.0 grs, IMR 4350, Fed 215 MM primer and W-W cases @ 100 yards. Velocity is at 3000 fps.
