After getting into long range shooting I had been buying the large Shoot-n-see type targets. Not only are they they expensive but they are lacking in several regards. I came up with the idea of using the “invisible grid” poster boards and the 2 and 3” orange stick on targets. The bullet holes stand out very well against the white poster board and easily covered with the 3/4” stickers generally used at garage sales. I was shooting all day today using the same poster boards, several people remarked what a good idea it was and that they hadn’t thought of that so I figured I would share with you guys.

All the materials you can get at walmart, and for half of the cost of the larger shoot-n-see type targets. The larger shoot-n-see targets run $13.99 for 5 and these targets I’m shooting are under $1.50 and last much longer than Shoot-n-see. The half inch grid is excellent for figuring sight adjustment while not distracting.

Innovative. Great suggestion for shooters. For years, I used a roll of wall paper and Targ Dots for shooting. It worked very well. Your idea is better still. I guess I'll be making a trip to Wal-Mart shortly.

Do you tape or staple that to a frame?

I use freezer paper taped to your typical cardboard backed wood frame target. Makes it easy to cut out the groups and save them in the guns binder. Can be a pain though when the bullet passes through a previously made hole- the paper tears pretty easy so it can hide bullets. Had one group where only two bullet traces where visible, but there where four in that tear... Or they went warp speed and are lost in the fabric of time.

I stapled the poster board to the target frame. The 3/4” stickers do a very good job of covering the bullet holes. They also stick much better to the posterboard than the whole covers do to the shoot-n-C targets. Here is a closer shot of one of my ML bullets punching almost the same hole and you can see a good round hole in the sticker.

Bear,
If you have GFS or the like up there, try using their bulk pizza boxes. They come in packs of 50, flat (knocked down) and run about $15. Excellent size.
They work great also with pistols as you can lightly spray paint the outline of a "tombstone" silhouette on them.
Not hijacking, just a cheap idea.
