Big Bore (.375 and larger) Rifles

Thank You for that Dr Mike!

Yes, the firearm is an absolute work of art, unfortunately I was pushed for time when I took the film photos and had to use a flash on most of the shots!
In all but two of these posted photo's, the flash has washed out a lot of the detail and hides other.
These photo's, don't do the stick of wood, the engraving and color case hardening justice, it's all truly STUNNING!!!
By the sound of things, your eye's can see past my photographic short comings!

Merry Christmas
Homer

Sorry Fotis,

To the best of my knowledge/memory the wood used on this double, was English walnut!

The stick of stock wood on my .404 Jeffery, is a naturally dried (10+ years) of Australian grown, exhibition grade English walnut, from the Victorian high country!
Ross Waghorn's stock and metal work on that rifle, is also truly STUNNING!!!
When it comes to stock restoration work, Ross is still the the Go-To bloke for English Gun Makers like H&H , Purdey etc!
Like almost all of his stocks, they are roughed out by hand and then slowly shaped and progressively worked into the final stock.
Other than a drill press for drilling action screw holes, its all Hand Work Only!

Homer,

Your photos give ample evidence of the gunmakers artistic abilities. It is, indeed, a lovely piece of art.

The largest I have is a 375 RUM with loads for the 260AB and 300AB.

It's the LSS model on the far right. The other rifles are the other 3 RUM calibers.

Gotta love them doubles. That is an interesting chambering indeed.

Homer,

That's one awesome rifle buddy! A double rifle is one itch I have yet to scratch. Think I could get over it just shooting one, but to have one hanging on the wall???

Rich,

That is cool that you have the whole lineup of RUMs. I love my Sendero 300 RUM and almost had myself talked into the 7mm RUM more than a few times. Then it was a 338 RUM that was almost mine....

G'Day Fella's,

Thank you for the kind words about my mates double rifle!
Whilst I do appreciate the workmanship undertaken on this rifle, personally, I'm more of a Bolt Gun man myself!!!

Doh!
Homer

Very cool rifle.
I would love the opportunity to shoot a double rifle some day.

Even though I'm now more utilitarian in nature when it comes firearms, I sure can appreciate the beauty of that Double (or any classy firearm),,,dang that's nice Homer.
Oh, and as far as big bores goes, I only have the Marlin .45-70, 375 JDJ. And as long as they were brought up, a 9.3x74R, with those last two being on a TC Encore.

Homer,

I can certainly appreciate the craftsmanship. Nevertheless, I concur that bolt action (and lever action) rifles are of far greater interest to me.

I had an acquaintance attempt to interest me in a Merkel double rifle last week...I lost interest very quickly whenI I realized the rifle was worth more than my Jeep.

I'll stick to the plebeian bolt guns!

G'Day Fella's,

I'm not sure if you blokes get the to see the British TV car program "Top Gear"?
Anyway, in one particular episode, they were reviewing a limited edition Range Rover.
This particular 4x4 came all sorts of bits and pieces for the Landed Gentry, including a very nice Holland & Holland SxS shotgun!
The Pommy/Limey host Jeremy Clarkson just happened to mention, that the H&H shotgun, was Worth More than the Range Rover and all it's accessories!!!

So Hodgeman, don't feel to depressed about the asking price of that Merkel!

Doh!

G'Day Fella's,

Sorry but I'm not able to view my own photo attachments (I've managed to switch that off & don't know how to rectify it?)!
Can some one please tell me, how many images have been posted.
Sorry Mr Nosler, if I've doubled up!!!

Merry Christmas
Homer

You've now posted a total of five photos--four of the rifle and one closeup of the wood. It is a gorgeous stick, that's for certain.

The only thing wrong with that rifle is that I don't own it, or it's cousin.
Very beautiful rifle indeed. You should be proud, as I know I would be.
