Here are a couple pictures of my old Marine buddy's muley from this year. Took it with a 6mm Rem. I will put what he wrote to me.

"Most people don’t believe it but I shot that Buck @ 240 through the heart with my 6mm using a 58 gr Hornady VMax that buck hunched up made a couple steps up hill turned made a couple more, turned and fell dead as crap!"

Not sure why he used the 58gr VMAX, but I imagine he had ultimate confidence in it from shooting yotes with it. Not my preferred bullet for deer, but as the pictures show, they worked well.

We were in the same unit back in Pendleton about 10 years or more ago. Great Marine and a great hunter. Oh, this buck was taken from Idaho. Scotty

Scotty thanks for the picture and what an awesome buck. I believe it with the 6mm Remington, and you are correct on it probably not being the best choice of bullets, but on a broadside shot where he could get it into the heart lungs it obviously worked. One of the quickest kills I ever made was with an 85 Sierra boattail hollowpoint in my 6mm. That was my coyote load and I had put some in my rifle by mistake and shot an antelope buck broadside at about 75 yards in the lungs. He dropped at the shot stone dead. There was only a couple small bullet fragments that even touched the inside of his ribcage on the off side. His lungs were a mess. Not prefered but in some cases it will work. Great buck and photo's.

That is a pig! That's for sure. I've surprised that a 6mm Remington would take it. Listening to the experts, I had come to the conclusion that those 24 calibre bullets from that cartridge bounced off deer and other ungulates.

How lucky is it to find the sheds on the same hunt! My buddy did well. That is a muley I dream of! Scotty

That is a really great buck. I suppose Scotty you have talked to him about moving up a caliber or two? Great pictures.

He actually has a 30-06 that he was planning on using, but something happened to it I guess. I try not to "recommend" stuff to my buddies, unless they ask. I don't wanna be the guy that recommended something that gave them a bad result. If they ask, I will always tell them what I think, but he is a great rifleman, and seemed to be confident in the rifle/load, he has shot a gazillion coyotes with it.

Heck, I am still trying to get you to dive into the 338 Mag's Bill! It is slow going! Scotty

Darn nice Mulie !

Nothing wrong with the caliber / bullet selection for that Mulie either. Imagine it will soon be on his wall.

Thanks Scotty

Yeah, I would say he did great. Seems like us gun nuts are the ones who use the monsters every year for the slaying, but out West, I have seen alot of folks hunting with the 220, 22-250 and 6mm's... If you shoot them with laser accuracy, they will pile em up! Scotty

"It's all a blur. Like a horrible day-mare..... batman... :!:

Well if a varmint bullet can take this mule deer, then a .270 110 varmint bullet will take whitetail. I imagine he shot him behind the shoulder? :?:

Very Nice Deer

If griz are not an issue my go to deer rifle is the .243 only I use the 100 grain PT. Did a mention that is a very nice deer.

My dad's only rifle growing up and until after he came back from WWII was a Marlin 39A .22 long rifle. Hanging in the shed at the family homestead are a lot of racks taken with that rifle some in the same size range as your buddies. Even teamed up with a couple of my cousins on an elk or two. Bottom line, bullet placement trumps just about every other factor.

I understand the regulations have to be for the Masses, so it is what it is -

But - I so wish CO would allow us to use the 22-250 / 220 swift to hunt mulies.
