Ok I am wanting to add a bipod to my arsenal one that mounts to a sling stud obviously harris comes to mind but they are spendy are others similar? or equal I see midway has the caldwell on sale heck in the pics they all look the same.

and when they say pivot how do they pivot?

Definitely get the pivot kind, very nice for uneven ground which 10 times out of 10 it will be. Outers makes or did make a copy of the Harris, don't know if they still do or whether or not they have a pivot model. Versa-Pod is another that pivots and you can detach from the main pivot piece and carry in your pack then snap it in place when you're ready to use it. The main thing I don't like about the versapod is it's like a wet noodle with $1K of gun and glass sitting on it. Makes me very nervous! The Harris is spendy but the best way to go imo, especially the one with the notched legs vs. the spring loaded, tighten down type. The both pivot by swiveling on a rod basically, more of a panning motion i guess left and right which allows your gun and optics to stay level while shooting. 9-13" is best for prone where 13-27" is best for most guys sitting or kneeling. Hope this helps. I've made plenty of mistakes with bi-pods. For predator hunting/calling, I prefer the Primos trigger stick, which is a quickly adjustable monopod for sitting or kneeling, although they make a longer one for standing as well.

I don't know the name of them but I have seen them at the Wal-mart in the sporting goods section with the targets and cleaning supplies. They look just like the Harris but are around $39.00 if memory serves me right. I have had a Harris for many years. It is on my AR-15 223 right now because that is what I have been using for groundhogs.

This is the unit I have on my M24. It has worked great for me.

very happy with the spring loaded harris. The short one for pnone or bench shooting and the tallest one for sitting/kneeling. Taken several pronghorns with the tall one and many squirels/parrie dogs with the short one.

I have a short swivel Harris in my safe that rotates around a few rifles. But for big game I have started packing some shooting sticks.
