Well the fun has arrived with 1500 rounds, three magazines, front and rear flip up removable sights (not on at the moment) with my 2.5-8x36mm VX-III. Will be going Friday to sight in and shoot.

Friday will tell us that reality :)

The 60BT should be great, but I can tell you that the 60 V-max kicks butt in most fast twist barrels & it is quite the bomb!! Which twist do you have?

Mine is 1 & 9 twist

Sweet rifle Mike. Good luck with it. Can't wait to see how yours shoots. That VX3 looks pretty sweet on top of it. Scotty

Scotty, I like how the VX-III looks also, in fact a little better than I thought. I won't know how to act when I pull the trigger on this little puppy after shoot that Big Dog 340Wby. I will take four Advil so as to minimize the trauma on my shoulder, I think that will handle the problem

Good looking Rifle Mike ! Think you'll make it through all 1500 on Friday?

I had a DPMS that really didn't care what went down the barrel - I was very supprised at how well it shot.

Certainly post results on Friday.

I will make sure and post results. Being a chrome lined barrel it might take a couple hundred rounds to break it in. :)

Mike,

Nice looking set up.
Time to start looking at a progressive loader.

Nice looking rifle. I like those S&W AR15s. I've shot one once, they look well built. Did it come with the Pmags? Those are great mags too, i have a few of those for my rifle.

Yes, it did come with the Pmags :)

Nice Rifle. I am sure you are going to enjoy it. I have a Bushmaster M4 16" ORC that I wouldn't want to part with. Mine is also a Chrome Lined Bore. I didn't do anything special to break in the barrel as when I spoke with Bushmaster they told me to clean it and go shooting.

Yes, I have come to that conclusion myself. Just clean it and shoot and that is what I am going to do. Mine has a chromed chamber and bore.

Could not wait to shoot it some so on the way to work I fired 34 rounds and the average velocity was 2918fps using Brown Bear 55gr HP. Man that chrome chamber is slick, I reall like that feature along with the chrome bore. Sure was fun today for the brief time I took to shoot. Here is how it did at 100yds. First target was last target shot. Have to get use to this trigger. It sure is not a match gun but still fun. Might do some things to this rifle but not until I shoot some of my reloads to really see what I need to do like free float the barrel and change trigers.

Mike, your results are identical to my buddies. His shoots very well, but dealing with the trigger is about the hardest part of it. I get alot of potential out of the groups, but just can't close the deal once we start moving back in distance. We have kind of put load development on hold until he gets a trigger for it. After that, I am sure it is going to be a true tackdriver. Right now it shows potential, just gotta smooth some stuff out. I am glad we aren't the only ones seeing the same things. If you get any good word on triggers, let me know. Still trying to do some good research on a suitable trigger. Glad you got your rifle. Looks like a good beginning break in! Scotty

AR Triggers leave a lot to be desired !

However there is a way to solve the problem. There are several aftermarket triggers available. Choosing which one is the hard part.

For me I wanted a crisp single stage trigger that was adjustable. I ended up going with the JP Enterprises Fire Control System (JP Adjustable Trigger, JP Speed Hammer, JP Disconnector and JP Springs are included in the kit). The JP Enterprises Fire Control System comes with complete instructions as well as a DVD showing how to do the installation and set up. The JP instructions stated the engagement should be set at between 1/2 to 1 turn of engagement. I have one of mine set at 1/2 turn and one set at 1 turn of engagement and both a quite crisp. There is some fitting to the disconnector and tail of the trigger to the safety to be done but if you follow the instructions it isn't too difficult.

There is another option also. http://www.sargenthome.com/15_Minute_AR_Trigger_Job.htm shows how to tune the factory trigger to get a better trigger pull. I have done this on a couple AR's for friends that turned out quite well. In addition I also add a 1/4"x28 TPI set screw to limit engagement somewhat. This set screw goes in above the grip screw bolt and pushes the trigger upward limiting engagement. Using this method only so much engagement can be eliminated due to the tail of the trigger contacting the safety.

Another option is sending the trigger group to Bill Springfield at
http://www.triggerwork.net/arparts.html. I have talked to a few guys that have had Bill do trigger work on their AR's and they are totally happy with the outcome.

There are also quite a few different Two Stage Triggers available for the AR-15. One that comes highly recommended a lot is the Rock River Arms Two Stage National Match Trigger. I have never fired an AR with a Two Stage Trigger so can not really comment on them.
