Have any of you or anyone you know had problems with Boyds stocks yellowing or cracking?
Stockys is discontinuing the boyds line of stocks and have comments on their web site indicating these problems are the reason for dropping them. Anyone aware of significant problems with them? I need 2 stocks and was fixing to order Boyds ones. THANKS. Al

I bought for my Savage 204 rifle. Haven't had any problems with it, but I had to sand the barrel channel to fit the bull barrel. When the barrel was floated, I sanded down the whole stock and sprayed it again with a satin clear coat to seal it.

I have purchased several of the thumbhole laminates Stock's sells - but I don't think they are made by Boyd's.

Al I just bought an unfinished laminate stock from Stocky's last month.
I was surprised when it arrived in a box that said "Boyds"

It was a bit proud at the tang are of the reciever, but other than that it fit perfectly and didn't require a lot of sanding.
Couple of coats of Tru-oil and it looks great.

My brother bought an unfinished one for his 10/22 and finished it himself, looks great if you like blue stocks. No yellowing, or cracking. I almost bought one for my 280 AI and finicshed it myself, but decided to go a different, lighter weight route.

I have never heard o any issues like that.

We sell quite a few, and I've heard nothing but good from those who bought one.

My son's Ruger MKII wears a Boyds numeg laminate stock. The finish has been holding up really well over the last three seasons, and the fit and finish looked good to me. I did have my gunsmith pillar bed and glass bed it and float the barrel however, and since they don't come checkered, I had a nice gal do a simple pattern on it for my son. We traded her a load of cut and spit firewood for it so my son could work it off so to speak for the checkering. I think it's a great stock.

My .25-06 wore one of the Grey laminates I got from Stocky's... it was a good solid stock... solid... seriously, like 43oz of solid. I went the other dirrection to the Ti style stock, which weighs 25oz... pretty quick way to shed a pound and a half. The rifle shot a little better in that stock than it does in the Ti... but I'll take the 7.5lb gun over a 9lb gun just about any day... especially in a .25-06...

Based on the wording on their web page I suspected it may be negative bias from some disagreement rather than a stock issue but I wanted to see what the general consensus of others who have used them was. I have one ordered.

Members of this web page have been invaluable to me during the last 2.5 years that I have been a part of it. I take this opportunity to say thanks to all who take time to share their experiences and opinions.

6 mm, good photo and I love the checkering on it. I wish there was some way I could get one checkered.

To AL in SC, In reply to getting someone to checker your stock.....
Try Ahlmans in MN. Their web site is http://www.Ahlmans.com/checkering.
phone #'s 507/685-4244, or 685-4243.

They have done several stocks I had checkered. They are really good jobs and offer about 10 different patterns. Run from, $100.00 up to $220.00.....check their site out and then give a call...I think you will be very satisfied....

Good luck and Merry Christmas!!

GRT338, Thanks for that info. I will follow up. Lack of checkering on laminated stocks is the only problem I find with them. This cold solve that. Thanks.
