Fellas with regards to premium brass which is the better, Hornady,Nosler or Lapua? I have been told before that Nosler is +- .2gr and thats fantastic but always heard good about Lapua and Hornady. Ive been using Federal,Winchester and Remington. Is premium worth the money?

Go with the Nosler brass. Very nice stuff!
You can also get seconds from Shooters Pro Shop which is miles above your current brass.

OF the ones you listed, Lapua is hands down the best. Followed by Nosler, then win, then fed, lastly Remington...

I dont know if premium brass is really worth it or not. I've shot some great groups using WIn and Rem brass out of my rifles, not sure if the brass will make it shoot any better?? A good load is a good load reguardless of brass used, IMO.

Would really like to know where Nosler gets there brass?? If they make it themselves, or if the Rumor about it being spiffed up and weight sorted WIn brass with Nosler headstamp has any truth to it?? I and many others sure would like to know...

I haven't tried Nosler Yet so I can't comment on it's quality. Lapua has my vote for #1, next would be Norma, Remington then Winchester. I used to prefer Win over Rem, but Win brass has gone to hell in a hand basket lately.

I have seen "measurably" small groups when using Lapua brass in custom varmint and target rigs.

However, in a field rifle there are so many variables that influence accuracy that premium brass is hardly worth it for the average shooter. A rifle that shoots 1-1.5moa will not be improved by switching brass. Not in all practicallity anyway.

Many shooters manage to sqeek .5-.75moa out of factory brass. Better than that isn't really useful in a field gun under normal circumstances. If you happen to be one of those precision shooters who pushes your shooting distances to the MAX, then yes, EVERYTHING makes a difference.

I always have had good luck with remington never liked winchester and to cheap to try nosler or any other brand.

Ditto what JD338 said. 375RUM brass would also be nice. As would .416 A/B bullets of 350gr. or so.
And when is the new reloading manual going to be available?

Lapua is great brass, so is RWS, very durable. I also like Norma & have just bought some Nosler in 280 to try. WW & RP are ok if bought in bulk & culled for wt. You will pay more for Lapua & RWS but they last longer than any other brands I have tried.

I was thinking about buying some Nosler brass in 280 and necking it down to use in 270.

Has anyone done this with Nosler brass and did you find loads/pressures the same, or different, than with just buying Win 270 brass etc...

Long,

I think you may be farther ahead using 30-06 brass and resizing it to 270 Win. The 280 Rem case has the shoulder more forward (1.999") vs the 270 Win (1.948"). The 30-06 is also 1.948".
Take a look at case drawings in the Nosler RG#5 for reference.

Just a thought.....

Thats good information JD. I was thinking more along the lines of less brass to move with the closer Caliber diameter. Never thought about the shoulder measurements.
