To be even more specific.... The new Remington 700 VTR. The .223 model has a twist rate of 1 in 9. Idealy I think the 60gr B-tip would be perfect.... but... what about lighter bullets in the 50 to 53 grain range?

Just shot my buddy's new 223 VTR and it liked Blackhills 50 gr V-MAX. Three shots at 300 yards, one inch group. The VTR is very nice rifle.

The lighter bullets should shoot just fine.

BTW, I shot the 60 gr BT from my 22-250 1:14 twist into a 4.75" group at 100 yds. The bullet is too long for the slower twist of my 700 VLS. The 60 gr PT is my go to coyote bullet.

Just like Antelope Snpier said, both of my Bushmasters will eat anything from 50 gr all the way up to 75gr. Under an inch at 100 yards.

My DPMS AR shot 50 and 55 grainers fairly well too... ( just traded it off and purchased the VTR today ) I have a surplus of older Hornaday bullets.

JD,

That Partition did quite the job on that yote !! Too bad on the B-tips though.....
I am going to buy a box for the new VTR......I'm thinking the wife will enjoy shooting this one too....

Let us know how the VTR shoots.

I should have it out on Sunday, weather permiting. I just have way too many choices on this caliber for powder and bullets that I have on hand. The surplus of powder I have is IMR 4198 & 3031. I know those arn't the " top " of the list powders for the .223 but I think I'll start there.
I also have 322, 335, H380, BL-C-2
I can clearly see I just don't have enough play-time !!
