OK - please understand - this is a "working rifle" for a patrol officer. Although someday I'll likely shoot it at 300 and even 600 yards, for my purposes, it's primarily intended for 50 yards and in. Absolutely bone-stock Bushmaster AR-15, with the 16" barrel, and 55 gr ball ammo. I have some 30 round magazines, but these 20 round mags are new and I wanted to test them.
Five rounds to check zero at 50 yards, shooting from prone. Adjusted the rear sight six clicks right to correct point of impact. Next five rounds were nicely centered. Maybe a tad low, but not enough to worry about at this point. My next 30 rounds were the patrol rifle qual course:
5 rounds @ 50 yards. Start from standing. On command drop to prone, fire five rounds rapidly, center mass.
Run to the 25 yard line (real fun in the snow). Drop to kneeling, five rounds from the right side of the barricade. Change mags. Switch to left hand, left shoulder, left eyeball, left, left, left. Put five more in the target, center mass. Clock is still running.
Move to the 15 yard line. Fire five shots while moving (no stopping to shoot, shoot on the move) to the 7 yard line.
From 7 yards, pivot right, two rounds center mass, as quickly as possible
From 7 yards, pivot left, two rounds center mass, as quickly as possible.
From 7 yards step in and right, two to the chest, one to the head, quickly.
From 7 yards step in and left, two to the chest, one to the head, quickly. Transition to pistol, and finish off the target with three rounds.
That's the qual, 30 rounds or 300 points possible. I only managed a 285 today - usually don't have any problem shooting all 10's - but... I was cold & tired and this was the first time out with this particular rifle. Conditions were just peachy too. Maybe next time.
Some more practice with this rifle, and I'll be there. I hesitate posting the target with some hits in the 7 ring doggone it. Not pleased with 285, but it's a start.
*No .45 holes in this target, we used a different target for the pistol part of the qual.
