Only made a token attempt at bear hunting in 2014. Kind of missed our September Bear Hunt. It's become a bit of a tradition, so I got hold of my bear hunting buddy and asked if he'd be interested in doing our Bear Camp again, Sept 2015. That's kind of like dangling a big ol' wiggly worm in front of a hungry fish... The guy is a maniac about bear hunting... So, looks like the Miner boys are off to Bear Camp here in Washington again, comes September.

That is really cool, guy. Which one of those bears was the largest. The one with the #1 on looks good sized for a black bear, but its hard to tell from the pictures. Nice photos.

Palouser, that's a Model of 1917 (yes, it's really that old) .30-06 rifle. It's served four generations of our family and was my favorite center fire rifle as a teenager. My youngest son has pretty much adopted it as his. Years ago I had the barrel bobbed to 21" and it's glass bedded in the B&C stock. I put a 6x Leupold in Weaver rings and bases on it. The trigger is by Timney, and long ago Dad had it converted to cock-on-opening. Still has the big magazine. My son keeps it sighted in at 200 yards with 165 gr Noslers over H4350 for 2750 fps and has made several 300+ yard first round hits. He's taken a couple of bears and a whitetail buck with that rifle.

Yes, I like to use my .375 H&H Ruger Number One for bear. It's more rifle than needed, but gives me an excuse to use the .375 until I can someday go on a grizzly hunt, or take it to Africa.

TB_78 - yes, we are blessed, as is Idaho, with a large number of chocolate & cinnamon colored bears. Even some "blonde" bears. No they're not stupid, just blonde... :grin:

My son and I both dearly love bear hunting. It's all "spot and stalk" here. Shots at 300+ yards are not uncommon. Neither is tracking a bear into the brush and finishing them at short range...

The bear hunting is a terrific rush!

Awesome rifles, sounds like a lot of history on the 30.06! As I have said another posts I like small rifles, but I want a 375 H&H in the worst way! They are the epitome of cool! I almost bought one awhile ago but what would I use it for? Whitman County whitetails? Someday I'll have one.

Very nice! I'm going to try and get a Cinnamon this Spring that I saw last Spring. he was too small last year, so we'll see how he's grown this year.

Guy, I think you are headed for a disappointing hunt this year. While the .375 will work I think you'd be better suited packing something else into the woods. I believe the only thing that could salvage your already doomed hunt is a .35 Whelen. A Nosler 250 grain Partitian around 2500 fps and the Bears would opt for suicide rather than face the wrath of the .35!!!
