Spent yesterday with four guys I used to work with. Molly and Riply performed admirably. All four of them were firearms instructors when I ran the unit, two of them were in swat with me. Only one pointed bird eluded us, I think 10 rounds were fired at that bird, the dogs retrieved 15 birds for us. Been a while since my last choir practice with these guys, a good day.

Looks to have been a great day! Good haul. No doubt the dogs were pleased to have opportunity to bust a few birds.

Very nice! I don't know about elsewhere in the NW, but I've seen more pheasant this year in N Idaho and E Washington than I have in the last 20 years.

That's awesome. A great day afield with good friends, the dogs working and some excellent meals to be had.

I am glad that you guys had a great day . Watching & being with the dogs is always fun.
Thank you for the post & photos (y).

Blessings,
Dan

Maverick I agree with your observations, also good numbers of chukar and quail. Where I guide in Oregon we actually had quail hatching in early September.

Wow! A late hatch. Good survival rates? I suppose if it wasn't too wet or too cold you would see a good survival rate.

I was wondering about the survival rate for a September hatch too.

October was pretty good here in the Northwest, but we got rain & snow by November... Adult birds are doing fine.

And I've seen a lot of chukar this year! Now, getting to them... That's another story!

As I recall we didn't get any rain or frost until November so the late hatch had a chance to get started.
