Cleaning Brass

I'm real picky when it comes to my brass.

1. I always give the brass a quick "pre-clean" in hot soapy water,
2. Then I de-prime and size.
3. Put them in the Ultrasonic cleaner to clean the primer pockets.

Then I move onto trimming etc. etc. The final step before priming is the Tumbler. I love the look and feel of tumbled brass.

1, clean the brass in the tumbler.
2, deprime the brass.
3, throw the brass back in the tumbler.
4, continue with the rest of the reloading process.

+1, except I'm a Canadian anal-retentive virgo... :)

More than that... I don't want dirty brass damaging my brass, so I tumble before sizing, and then I tumble again to remove the sizing lube. But then I am a bit of an anal-retentive German Virgo. :)

Whoa, I am glad you guys can't see my reloading bench/man cave. It has alot of "stuff" in there. I really had good intentions of cleaning it up last weekend, but homework got the best of me.

I cite scriptural authority for the lack of neatness on my desk and reloading bench: "Where there are no oxen, the manger is clean" [Proverbs 14:4].

Whoops, this should read, "I don't want dirty brass damaging my dies."

Kurt,

I thought maybe you were generating a new definition of Kosher (keep dirty brass from "real" brass). I was commending you for being careful in the extreme. Now, I learn you're really like me.

How do you remove sizing lube by tumbling ? I use walnut media which sticks to the inside of the cases once the lube saturates the media. Next thing ya know powder sticks to the neck when your pouring it in the case. I don,t know how many times I found walnut media stuck to the bottom of the case. I,m pretty sure I,ve shot media down my bore a few times. Maybe I should be adding a cleaning agent to my media instead of polish. So the above is why I clean with a cleaner prior to polishing. I,m not trying to be a stinker but I,m missing something.
