I am wondering what changes they made to this gun to supposedly make it more reliable and durable than the previous generation. Possibly lower and flare ejection port is one? Anything else?

I've noticed that Colt is fitting the majority of their new 1911's with the Series 70 trigger system. Maybe this is what they are doing with the Mustang.....

IMHO....the Series 70 was the last quality production Colts made. But that's just my opinion.

Investment casting of parts can produce volumnes of high quality parts faster then machining. Machine time in cleaning up said parts is greatly faster then actual machining.

The key is in the people doing the casting and then those fitting the parts.

Then in many parts you have an additional heat treating...... those folks can make or break quality.

FYI----I am a Machinist and manage a production machine shop..... we do not make ones and twos.... we make hundreds and thousands of the same parts in a single run..... without a computer anywhere near our machines.
