I followed the Nosler recommended break-in procedures on my new gun and Montana X-Treme copper killer is not quite getting the job done for copper, what do you guys recommend? Per the instructions, I have not tried Copper Cream yet (can't find it!)

Thanks

I've had fairly good luck using Bore Tech Eliminator. Also try to use SS jags to prevent false readings when cleaning.

Agreed. Even the regular BTE works well on copper, and the copper specific one is even better.

You can also get false readings from brass fittings on your rod.

I am using a brass jag; my patches are coming basically clean, but I am able to see copper in the riflings if I shine a light down the muzzle.

Get some nickel plated jags or some BoreTech Proof Positive jags (copper-free) and some BTE. Follow this regimen and you'll get her clean:

1. Three soaked patches down the bore
2. Wait 8-10min
3. One soaked patch down the bore
4. Wait 8-10min
5. Repeat steps 3 & 4 until the first patch comes out completely clean
6. Patch dry and oil if you prefer

I'd be willing to bet you'll get blue on the three soaked patches when you start this regimen. That's been my experience, after cleaning until "done" with other cleaners. It may take a while (and a lot of patches) to get it fully clean the first time. I've had a few rifles I've bought used or rehabbed for others which took several nights of work, for a few hours each night, to get clean. Put on a movie and set a timer on your phone and go to town. If it's not clean at the end of the session, just patch it dry and start over the next night.

I've chased something like 20 different solvents with BTE and gotten more out after the others came out clean. It's really the best stuff I've used.

I use a chamber plug and fill the barrel with Shooters Choice. An overnight soak and brushing with a nylon bristle brush (stainless steel brushes and jags could damage the bore) will get all the copper out of a heavily fouled barrel.

Yep. My favorite by far.
