I have been a single shot guy most of my life, with the expection of one repeating rifle which i didn't keep long. But I have always wanted a levergun. When I seen this I just had to have. Not sure I really need it, but whats need got to do with it  ,,,,There may be a day

I got plans to cast bullets for this,,,can't decide at the moment, but looking at a 420 and 465 gr.s molds. May just get both. That and a Skinner's peep sight.

Awesome rifle Dave. I just bought my first 45-70 Guide Gun this year also. Super accurate and smashing power. It is an awesome rifle. Yours looks really sharp and that big leaver will keep your fingers in tact shooting those big cast loads. Check out the 425gr PileDriver JR from Beartooth bullets. I have 100 of them waiting on my bench. They are supposed to be very accurate and smashing on game with the big WFN. Good luck, that Skinner sight is a good one. Can't wait to hear how it shoots. Scotty

Congratulations on buying a great rifle. I know of several who have bought a variation of your rifle recently. I have a standard 22 barrel, 1895 Marlin which I bought to replace my son's 1896 Guide Gun that he had appropriated from me.

I really like the rifle and things will be different after Remington has finished firing all of the Marlin Skilled Tradesmen this year. I do not believe that the Marlin product willl continue to meet current quality levels after the reorganization. They never do!

Another piece to the puzzle,,,figured as long as I would shoot the .454 as much as the .45-70 I would have one bullet for each in the same mold

Great rifle, looks good and I am with POP on it being brilliant about the mold. 8)

Every time I see one of these it reminds me how much I want one! They are light, handy and a great carry rifle. If I didn't already have a 45 I would all ready have one. Great looking rifle.

Don't hold back buddy! They are some really fun and great carrying rifles! Plus, I think you would be amazed how accurate they are. I can't wait to give mine a go this year. Hopefully I have some deer that cross my path! Scotty

These are from my second casting session. Needed some refinements in my technique over the first try. I loaded some up, as I was rushed for time, I didn't get an extensive testing and range session in. My son wanted to take either the 12"Encore.454 or the .45-70 Marlin for a timber rig for an Elk hunt in CO. (he's there now) I just loaded up a starting load in the .454 with H-110, guessing somewhere in the neighborhood of 13-1400fps. And a modest range load for the 405 in the 45-70 running about 16-1700fps with Benchmark. They both shot well enough , I didnt worry about making adjustments for the range he would need. He was off-handing the Encore into 2.5" groups at 50yds, and the Marlin was shooting 3" off of stix at 150yds.
And about the same offhand from the 70-75yd mark.
Can't wait to play more, not to mention a 465 gr. mold.

As much as he liked the Marlin when I brought it home, but,,,, once he shot the Encore with the Ultra Dot LT, he said "this is what I want to shoot an Elk with this yr."

Dangit! I do NOT need to be looking at this! I already have too many interests for the amount of spare time that I have! Must resist bullet casting! Must!!

Hey man, 6mm Remington identified the problem RADD!!!!!

Those are some really good looking bullets! I really dig those big .458's. I haven't gotten into casting, but it is on my to do list and that looks like a great idea. I don't shoot a ton of bullets so a 44 and 45 cal mold would probably work great for me. That is one nice 45-70, hope it shoots well for you, which, know the Marlins, it is a tack driver. Scotty
