This has been a problem for a while now. All I can say is buyer beware. Buy from a trusted source and stay away from low price offers on the internet ie: Amazon, ebay etc that might be selling optics at lower than normal prices.
The last few years I have been buying my Leupold scopes directly from Leupold.
