My dad and I just got back from a 3 day weekend hunt near Burns, OR.

Kinda dissappointed, in 3 days of hunting, we only seen 5 coyotes and I killed the only 1 at about 30 yards sunday morning.

Saturday morning we saw 2, the first one was bout 300-400 yards in the HART mountain wildlife refuge so he was safe. The 2nd one we saw was out about 350. The wind was blowing bout 40 MPH, but I decided to shoot anyways. I was using my Rem 700 25-06 with 75g vmax's at 3700fps. I shot and missed, dam wind anyways, LOL.

Sunday morning we also saw 2. The first one ran across the road infront of us. I bailed out and shot him at 30 yards. The 75g vmax hit behind the shoulder and exited leaving a small hole (surprisingly.) The 2nd one we saw was in the trees running and never did stop to get a shot off at him.

Monday morning we seen 1 and he was out there aways. 740 yards to be exact according to the swaro 1500 rangefinder. Since my dad hadn't even fired a shot off, he had first shot. He is also using a 25-06, but in a Ruger mk2 Stainless/synthetic. He's using 117g SGK's at 3200fps. He cranked up his 6-18 Leupold to 750 yards and let it fly. Right over his back!!

Wasn't a very good weekend for calling as the wind was blowing near 30-40 MPH it seemed like. Did quite a bit of driving on BLM land.

Its always nice to get away for the weekend though and spend some time with your dad. Its all about the memories...

Guess that is why it is hunting and not shooting... Nice coyote! Thanks for the sharing the hunt.

I wish that I could hunt one more time with my Dad, but he passed on a few years ago. But I defintely get into the field several times a year with my "kids" and brothers.

Thanks for sharing the trip and picture. Nice thick winter coat on that yote.
You get pretty good velocity out of that 25-06. It sounds like a perfect coyote rig.
Good Hunting
