A friend of mine wants me to get him a AAA fancy grade maple stock for his rem 700. Anyone know a good place to get one that I can finish to his liking?

PS I've tried the Richard's Microfit route before, and would like to avoid them like the plague.

And pretty heavy as well. I used to have a maple stock made by my grandfather, and it was beefy.

I think with maple, being as strong as it is, you could trim it down, alot and still retain alot of strength but have nice lines. It would be tough though and once it was sealed up, i would think it would be very stable. The grain pattern in some maple is just beautiful though.

I've seen the offerings of the firm Gerry posted previously. I haven't actually handled their product, but the wood displayed in the pictures is assuredly handsome. The bamboo is interesting. However, the maple is surely attractive.

I looked at a maple stocked Browning Citori at Cabelas in Winnipeg a few weeks ago I really liked how it looked.

Well...it depends on how strong of ambition your "friend" has commited to this project.

Paul & sharon Dressels are always topdollar wood.

Robert Szweda looks to work with maple, at least for this stock. You would have to supply the blank. Cecil Fredi has blanks.

Cecil's website for wood blanks:

Canyon Creek looks to also do good work with stocks:

These two options I judge to be very high quality, but neither are associated with the ACGG. Here's a link to other smiths. These are all likely more money, but very, very nice.

Check out accurate innovations-the blog section has years worth of pictures. Patrick is good to return e mails and even phone calls. If I ever get wealthy. . .

Charlie, I am not sure if Roger is still taking work. Kelly was looking at him to do some work, but I think he was a few years behind and not taking any further work so he could retire.
