CZ rifle?

Wow, those are some nice bucks Ed. You do have some great genes in your area..

I am 34 and still haven't wrapped my mitts around that many nice bucks!

My CZ550 Mannlicher stocked 6.5x55 now resides with my oldest son. He did a quilt trip on me about not having a rifle for my 8 year old grandson to shoot and hunt deer with. The rest as they say, is history and I have one less CZ rifle. Am I easy, or what?

OT3 how close would we have to be relationship wise for you to send me one of your Model 70s
You know that I am kidding but that why we are grandpas.
I don't know it you heard this yet but our grandchildren is God's reward to us for not whopping our teenage children

Blessings,
Dan

Have you guys got an Hawaiin Birth Certificate? After today, that may be what it takes to give someone a gun.

IMO CZ has it all over savage. I have 2 Model 550 ,one a full stock .308 and the other a model 550 American in .270 and a Kevlar stock. The biggest surprize is the the Model 550 with the full lenght stock is how accurate it is. I was willing to give up some accurate for the full stock but it shoots in a inch with lots of different types of ammo.

That is good to hear, cause usually the fill Mannlicher stocks are not known for tack driving accuracy.. I like the 550FS.. Pretty sweet looking rifles.

My CZ 550, Mannlicher stock, 6.5x55 is very accurate and my son said that he has no issue shooting under MOA with handloaded 125 gr Partitions. It is much more accurate than my fully stocked, Mannlicher, Model 1952 (Austria) .270 ever was.

I currently have 3 CZs. .22 LR, .22 WMR and .223 527 varmint with synthetic stock and midweight barrel (not really a heavy barrel). All shoot very well.

The .22 LR and .22 WMR I installed different springs and bushings (find on Rimfirecentral.com under CZ) and the triggers were suddenly beautiful.

The 527 has a set trigger which can really help accuracy although the standard pull is close to 2 1/4 lbs and very nice. The 527 is really only 6 1/2-7 lbs with a Bushnell 4200 Ellite 6-24x. Obviously not a true heavy barrel varminter, but great weight to carry into the field and shoots plenty good for P-dogs to 300 yds.

My buddy who owns a couple of Anshutz .22 LR guns hates the fact that my 1/3 the cost CZs shoot as well with the right ammo.

That being said, Savage makes a great little gun. I have owned 3 now and after tweaking triggers, free floating barrels and finding the "right" load, they all shot very "hunting" good.

I have a CZ550 Varmint in 308.... love it...

A bud of mine liked mine so much...he bought one just like it.... now he owns 5 CZ's in various configurations and calibers.

The trick with the trigger is for some reason, CZ's folks don't get all the burrs off the trigger components. Makes it feel a bit sandy, gritty at times. Mine was like that until we disassembled, hones the burrs off, careful not to touch the sear points already polished.

Now mine is a crisp 3 pounds.... kinda surprises ya when she goes off.

And the set trigger...... sheeessshhhh..... once set.... cough too hard and she goes BANG!!!

I owned a 527 synthetic in 223 about five years ago nothing but good to say about it. mine had a 1-9 twist barrel and that gave you a lot more options with bullets. if I were using it in the scenario you described the 223 would give you a little more diversity than the 204. Not saying the 204 isn't a good one in its own right just think the 223 would cover more ground. and its legal and totally capable in that platform to shoot an ftr match with if you decide to try that down the road.

Well I got to get a CZ and Savage in my hand at the same time. I liked the action and trigger better on the CZ. I also liked the wood compared to the plastic stock.

I have a Buddy with two CZ's. One in .223 and another .308 Winchester.
Needless to say the quality of both rifles is beyond expectations. Accurate, reliable, and well made sums it up to me. I'd take a CZ over a Savage any day of the week but that's just me. Eventhough I'm a Winchester fan I'm considering one but I'll probably get a Ruger. :)

I have owned two CZ's: a 6.5x55 Mannlicher carbine and a .204 Ruger Model 527. Both rifles were well made, had nice walnut (although no fancy) stocks and well finished metal work. My grandson has the 6.5x55 for deer hunting and I still use the .204. BOth shoot under MOA with handloads and the 527 shoots 1/2 MOA on calm days. This is pretty fine accuracy for a gun that I paid $500 for and that gives nothing away in workmanship to my more expensive rifles.

CZ is well built. I doubt a CZ will shoot any better than a Savage, but either will serve you well.
