I got a few spare hours today (spring is here and the wife wants a yard, NOW!) to go shooting. Took my 338 WM loaded with 225 ABs and some Ramshot Hunter, and my 338 Edge loaded with some 225 AB and Mag Pro. What happended was not what I expected!
These two groups came from my 338 WM  . The one on the left was 75 gr. hunter and the one on the right was 76 gr. All loaded to 3.345", using nosler brass, 225 AB, and 250 CCIs. The first three shots of 75 gr all read the same speed on the chrony. The fourth went way high and right, like six inches :?: :? 76 seemed a bit hot, but shot better. I didn't have any signs of preasure on the brass or bolt lift, but I was getting above the listed max speeds, and a very large SD. Think I'll try 75.5 and see what I get. If it is close to these two loads I'm done. This is the best outing I have had with this gun, and the 225 AB in two years. Hope it holds up.
The Top right and one of the two that cut each other are the foulers/sighters. I took the VXIII 4.5-14x40 LR off my 280 AI so I needed to make sure I could hit paper with it.
Next up was the 338 edge. I used Mag Pro because I had some and I had read an articel about it working good with the 225 AB. The guy was claiming 3300 fps and one ragged whole with 99rs. I cam up 150 FPS short, and not even close to the same groups size. Think I'll try some H1000, or 7828 next trip out.
I can't believe the recoil difference between these two guns. My 338 WM weighs about 9 lbs, and the edge weighs 11 lbs. The edge seems to kick half as much as the WM pushing the same bulllet 300 fps slower. I know it is because of the break (I have never used one), but my ears ringing, even with ear muffs was not a lot of fun either. Next time I'm going to use foam ear plugs and see if that helps.
This is just a fun pic. L2R; 7-08 120 BT, 280 AI 160 AB, 338 WM 225 AB, 338 Edge 225 AB.
I know, I know, my brass is not very pretty , it will get a good cleaning as soon as its shot up, I promise.
