Best of luck, I killed one elk with a 338/06. One shot through the top of the shoulders, it went right down. I would still have that rifle but it didn't shoot in the same place every time. A very nice medium cartridge.
Looks sweet!! Now go have a great successful hunt!!
Seeing this wants me now to use my 338-06AI with 225gr AB with H414 (and if memory serves me right-62gr H414) for my cow elk I will be concentrating on in December!! I could get my cow elk now (they are all over some of our land - in hidden fields with lots of great cover and prying eyes from the road jockeys) but I'm still going for a decent whitetail buck with only 8 days left in the season here.
Debating....300WM with 180gr AB reloads or the 338-06AI or my 270WSM with 140gr AB reloads. I have taken several elk with the 300WM and 270WSM more recently, but not with the 338-06AI. I know with my 300WM if the elk come out on the other end of the field from the timber and I'm pinned and cant move, I can reach out and touch them with my 300WM-very confident with my shooting capabilities with this rifle.
Decisions Decisions !! Got to like it when you have to pick a rifle....lol!
I have had mine for almost 5 years now, and never taken it out hunting...don't ask me why.
Maybe I should of taken it to moose camp this year and maybe we would not of been skunked ( I had a tag too boot this year...but that's a whole other story.)
