Yesterday I took a day off from my labors, and toured a couple of gun shops in Lake Havasu. One of them has two 1917's on the shelf. Both somewhat mangled but priced at $199. The better of the two was drilled for scope mounts may have had a different stock. The rear sight on the other had been ground off and replaced. Not pretty work, and while it still had an original stock, it had been chopped up. I am mildly interested but was wondering if someone here would "really" be interested? I would be willing to help with pictures, etc.

Not in a 1917, but if you find a P14 Bubba job reasonable I'd be interested. I'm thinking a strong bolt action re-barreled in .30-40 Krag or AI could be a whole lot of fun.

I can do that, they had quite a variety there, and there are three others in town, that I have not visited "yet".

I might be interested in the 1917's, but just like you, only mildly so. If you happen to be there again and want to take pics, I'd be interested in taking a look, but don't go out of your way. With a possible new home to build here shortly, the household accountant looks unfavorably upon me starting new "projects".

Love the 1917's, but... No reason to start a new build.

Anyone wants one heck of an action to build on... They're good. Real strong.

Oh yeah. I own two...a sporter and an original. Had 2 originals and sold one. They are built like a tank.

Yep, very tough my 1917 is in .300 H&H. Sold my buddy a spare action I had and he's building a .404 Jeffries on it. I was thinking .416 Rigby when I had it, but decided to sell before I sunk that kind of money into it. My $99 plus tax H&H cost me a pretty penny to make it a decent hunting rifle.
