I wonder if they mark the chambering as ".338-06" or ".338-06 A-Square"? If it's the latter, I'd personally pass and get it done by a gunsmith.

Wow! That's harsh, Kurt.

Yeah, sorry guys. I didn't mean to be a Donny Downer. A 338-06 is probably what I'm going to have my SS .270 turned into.

Now there is a smart man that knows what to do with a '06 case!!

Nah, if it was an '06 I'd leave it alone. But a .270, well, I can't believe I've left it a .270 for so long...

just got off the phone with "savage bat phone" and they said they could only do custom rifles in the calibers thaey alreay list. NO 35 WHELEN. Dang. Now I gotta do something else

If you want a faster build than the 18 Month lead time ERShaw offers here is what you can do.

Purchase one of these ( or any other less expensive action of your choice) http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/...eatherby+Rifles/Weatherby VANGUARD S2 270WIN/

And send it to the barrel manufaturer of your choice and have it rebarreled and rechambered into a Whelen. As I mentioned earlier I priced everything out to about 2-300 dollars more (including new stock, trigger, finish, etc) than the Mark VII from ERS.

After I ordered my Mark VII I decided to take on another project and that is what I did. Purchase a new .243Win rifle from Buds and send the barrel/action to Pac-Nor to put in new .260 REM barrel. You got choices.......

Good Luck

Would you consider buying wvchevy3's Vanguard 30-06 in the classifieds for $325 and get a top notch barrel put on? With a bit of shopping around for a good barrel you should be able to come in less than the E.R. Shaw and not have to wait nearly as long. That Vanguard for $325 is a steal!

currently I'm entertaining buying a used savage w/ accutrigger and I'll put a barrel on it. So far looks like I'll come in around 6-700. Now I just have to find a way for my wife to understand how I need another gun.LOL

It is a mystery how a wife can fail to understand the need of her husband who is infected with RADD. I just dunno' 'bout those critters.

I tell my wife it's just like purses, one could do the job but it just isn't right, you know they have to match your outfit, I mean game hunted

Let me know how that goes over. I like to learn from those educational experiences before I even get close to getting settled down.

She laughs at that but trusts that I won't go overboard in gun buying, she is quite undererstanding.
