Factory Crimp

This may sound like a dumb question and has probably been asked before But what exactly is a factory crimp?
I've used roll crimp and tapered crimp on various reloads. But don't understand what the factory crimp is?
Can some one smarter then me explain it please?

Lee makes a die called the Factory Crimp Die. It is just about the best crimp die I've used. Isn't picky about case lengths and won't buckle cases like some roll crimps will. Very inexpensive in the grand scheme and folks like Mike use them on a lot of bottleneck ammo and report very good results.

I use them on anything going into a lever rifle or handgun.

OK but does it put a roll crimp or a taper crimp on the case?
A taper crimp is less obtrusive then a roll and I use it on all my pistol ammo.

Neither one....it's a collet type crimp...quite obtrusive, creates its own cannelure in the bullet.

Yes, when you hammer down in it, it holds like nobodies business. I haven't found much that needs that much to hold it in place. Even a light crimps makes them pretty tough to pull.

Although I seldom crimp, just handgun and autoloading rifle rounds, the Lee Factory Crimp Die is the only die I use for crimping. It's that good.

I use the Lee Factory Crimp Die on my .25-06 ammunition.

It is easy to use and evens out neck tension which helps with more even pressures & closer ES. So more consistent ammunition...as long as all other brass prep is equal.
A worthwhile additional operation & benefit in my opinion.
