I've been using factory winchester fail safe 180's for years now. Last year I started playing with reloading (for varmint and handgun). I'm considering starting to reload for my 30-06 hunting rifle, which is a rem. mod. 700bdl. I've always read that the fail safe bullet was second to none. It seems that alot of people here like the AccuBond. So which would you folks recomend? Am I trying to simplify it? Is there more that comes into play here, what ?? I'm hunting whitetail and elk.. Thanks..

I also have used factory Failsafes for a number of years. (along with 150 gr Nosler Partitions). I started reloading this year and my rifle loves the accubonds. That is what I will be shooting from now on.

tootalloutdoors,

I have been reloading for over 30 years now. Its a great hobby and allows you to develope application specific loads to your individual rifle. Chances are that the AccuBond will shoot better than the Fail Safe bullets.
You can also try a box of Partitions. Any one of these bullets in 180 gr will work fine for Elk at 30-06 velocities. I think an AB would open up more on a WT Deer than the FS resulting in a shorter tracking job.

I agree that all three of the bullets you mentioned will work fine on elk. And the AccuBond should open up quicker on whitetails resulting in a possible quicker kill. Since you’re starting out in reloading I'd try all three bullets and see which one is the most accurate in your rifle. The 30-180gr Partition work really well in my Browning FN Safari 30-06, good enough to hit small water bottles at 450yds. However in your rifle maybe the AccuBond or Failsafe might perform better. Half the fun with reloading is seeing what works best in your rifle, the other half is actually getting to use them on game.
