at an estate sale.....
man this guy sure had a thing for 221fb and remmys.....
he had a rem 660, custom heavy stainless 6br that was sweet!
had a 221fb rifle built on an xp 100 action??? kinda odd.
a bdlvarmint 222 that was beautiful!!!!! all kinds of rem stuff! I'd be so broke right now if it would have been M70 stuff

anyways, NO winchesters :(
I bought a ruger 77/22 hornet, stainless/lam 24"
It has a fixed 10x Burris w/AO
this scope is really nice!!!
a custom trigger, aint put a scale on it but it's gotta be about 20oz
been looking for a decent deal on one, and finally found it!!!
shooting report to follow in a few days!

on a side note:

all of this guys scopes were mounted 90 degrees cc off.
so the windage screw was on top and the elevation screw was on the side.
Any idea why he would do this?

Also every scope was of fixed power and either a burris or leupold. 10x, 12x, 16x, 20x, and one 36x.

very interesting, i sure wish I would have met the ole' man and had a few conversations with him.

I've seen that way of mounting a scope if the brass is hitting the scope when it is ejected. Other than that I hear Lil Gun is the powder of choice for the Hornet. Sounds like a nice little rifle, enjoy!

Sweet grab Chet! Man, that little Hornet is so cool. Man, that 222 M700 BDL would have been very hard for me to pass up! That is a truely awesome little classic. Scotty

The laminated ones are decent with the medium heavy barrel. The regular 77/22H I have played with were terrible!!!!!

Chte,

Nice find, congratulations,
Looking forward to your range report and some pictures.

I'da fought you for it, Jarhead or not!

put a scale on the trigger, 22oz!!!!! way to light for me!!!

this guy had cut a few rungs off of the spring, I stretched it out a bit and got it back up to 2.25lbs. i think I'll order a few new springs and make it right. I dont like the idea of a stretched coil spring.

honed the rings and put the scope back on the right way, man I love this scope!

shot some old ammo i had layin around just to sight her in. seems quite accurate, will buy some fresh ammo and post some pictures of the results later.

I'm holding out for a Sako in 222 Rem Mag Kurt. Uncle had one of those with a Mannlicher stock and a 12X Leupold and it was a dream to shoot. It was the older mini Mauser style action as well. Very sweet rifle. Scotty

Sounds like you made a great find; congrats. Good job not going over to the Dark (Green) side, too!!

I just had to point out that the 221 Fireball was not originally a rifle cartridge at all, but was developed for the XP100 platform specifically.

Great little cartridge that!!

I shot a hornet just like the one you bought and it was SWEET! Great acquisition  !!!!!!!!!

Good. I've always wanted one of those .222 BDL Varmints, and I'd hate to get my butt kicked by a 'little' guy!

well, I bought some 35gr Hornady stuff...... I still had about 6 rounds of the old "I don't know who reloaded these" brand. lol
So yesterday mornin I went lookin for moose! Saw three, nothin big. Then the search was on for a target for the hornet!
First I saw a mountain hare! Dang them things are huge!!! I let him hop off - out of season. Then a Blue grouse - let him go for the same reason. Then this little ground squirrel poked his head out at about 120 yards. SNAP!!!!

Yup, it works.
Also, I had to take a picture of this cool lookin bighorn sheep
what do you think he'd score

Still got some snowed in roads, about 9,500 feet

Wow, all this time we've been calling them 'slow elk'!

One of these days, I am gonna have a Hornet just like that one. Unless CZ decides to start building a Hornet that is more of an 'American Classic' style.

That little hornet made a nice mess of the little squirrel  love it!!

Mike - what do you call the dangly thing under the neck of the white-faced bighorn sheep?!! Is there a little moose involved as well?
