Well I'm building a 280 AI and am planning on Dura Coating the actoin and barrel so they match. I got everything in the mail last week and decided that I better practice on something first. I have a Savage 17 HMR that was kind of beat up sitting in my safe that got the honors. The color is snow grey, and It was really easy to do. I wouldn't do inside the action again as it tightens things up a bit and wears off with the cycling of the action ( I got a bit excited and didn't let it set up all the way). I think the rest of the rifle turned out pretty nice. I ordered 8 Oz. not knowing how much each gun would use. The .17 took about one Oz. I think it looks great and the info says that even some of the pretty harsh solvents won't hurt it if you let it sure for three to four weeks.

i've done several guns with duracoat. i've found that it really takes about a month to fully cure. as long as no oil gets underneath it, its good stuff.

Thanks guys. I'm not to sure if it works on aluminum or not. I got lots of this color and thought about spraying a few parts on my snowmobiel that are aluminum. If I do I'll let you know.

jmad,

Darn nice job ! looks good.
It's always nice to have a practice round before making it count !

you can bake it if you don't have three to four weeks to let it sit. 150 degrees for 15 minutes if I recall correctly... Or sitting in the safe for three weeks.

Or seting by the wood stove would realy work well I might have to try that stuff so how much does it cost.

I think it is like $30 for 8 oz and $17 for 4oz. The colors comes with hardener. If it works it will be a pretty cheap way to make a none stainless rifle a whole lot more weather hardy, or dress up a few blemishes on anything. I would get the reducer as well. It isn't very nuch and helps it feed through a tiny air brush better. Then just some paint thinner for cleanup, or it will harden in your air brush and plug it up.

From what I can tell 4oz is enough to de several guns. If you don't have an air brush DON"T GET THE ONE THAT COMES IN THE KIT!! It didn't have a single good review. My bro went to Harbor Freight and got a good $20 air brush and it was well put together and worked great. The one that comes in the kit is plastic and $5 at the store, from what I have heard.

That doesn't seem to be to bad of price I'v got a couple stainless rifles I wouldn't mind giving a try on.

I have a barrel with interuptted fluting and I was thinking of painting or durcoating the barrel and them polish the exposed exterior, leavin the fluting "valleys" with color and the barrel s/steel.

Any idea how easily this stuff would remove? or not?

Looking for ideas..

I would have to say within the first hour of spraying it. Either that or let it set up all the way and take some really fine sand paper to it, but that might mess up your barrel.

I'm sure it can be done, but my craftyness only goes so far before I start to screw things up.

I am thinking of doing the same with my 280 AI. Black or gray in the vally of the flute.
Masking would be a pain but might be the best way...
