This morning was the opening day of Missouri's Alternative portion of our deer season. Alternative means black powder weapons, handguns, archery, atlatls, and air guns can be used. No centerfire rifles or shotguns are allowed
I had never handgun hunted before but I have owned a Ruger Redhawk .41 Magum topped with a Bushnell 2-6x scope for many, many years. I also had a box of Federal 210 gr ammo that I've had for a really long time. This is from when they called it Classic and the box was mostly a silver color. Anyway, I verified the zero and decided to give it a try.
I went to a stand on our farm before sunrise. About 7:15 three nice does came in and I shot one that offered the best angle. I spined her and got out of the stand and to her as quickly as I safely could and finished her off. I ranged back to my stand and found it was 97 yards.
Another item checked off my bucket list.
