My Oldest son bought his first rifle the other day. He decided he liked the Bergara B14 Sierra in a 6.5 PRC. We threw a scope on it and a Scythe ti. I went to work playing around with a few different loads and ended up settling on 58Gr N565 and a 142 ABRL. I let him do the load testing and he proceeded to shoot 2 different .5" groups with two different loads. I went back this weekend and shot a 5 shot group (below) with the same load and it went very well!

I have also been working on a long action 284 Winchester that I built for my wife. My 16-year-old daughter has claimed that as her rifle now and is intending to use if for her first spring bear hunt this next month. I'm really happy with how this load turned out. I verified the zero and then rang the gongs out to 800 with it. Printed a nice 5" 4 shot group at 800 with a 4.5 moa wind hold. She's definitely ready for bear! ***DO NOT TRY THIS LOAD IN A SHORT ACTION 284 Win.***

I know the ABLRs have a bad reputation on accuracy, but I haven't had much trouble getting them to shoot in most rifles.

i seen many complain about the ablr's, but no issues with the ab's across many forums. many are just about not expanding? i have several ablr's in 26, 27,28, 30 and 33cals, but haven't tested any yet. i don't hunt, only bought them for load and target testing due to advertised bc's. sounds kinda idiotic for buying them and not using them for their purpose, but that doesn't bother me 1 bit! i don't remember which forum it was on, but 1 member said he used his hunting ammo in a (not sure what it's called) competition where you shoot from different angles, distances while going cross country..............not sure how to word that, but he said he did better than many others. nothing wrong with shooting what you know! glad you and your son had a great range day and wish i had the time with my kids like that. i know they have fun when we do get to the range and it's never closed as we shoot on our property.

Brian Litz , from Berger bullets , did testing on the ABLR's BC's . this bullet does like a faster twist BBL , to get the advertised BC . makes me wonder if too slow of twist is the accuracy problem guys have with this bullet .

no accuracy problems on these targets . congrats to the kids .

Your son is a good shooter.
Excellent report Jake! Congratulations to your son, he’s a darn good shot!

Thanks, his big sister is a heck of a shooter as well. She smoked her buck this year with a perfect heart shot at 384 yards with the same 284 Winchester. He was getting mad at himself when the 129 ABLRs weren't making the same kind of group. I had to explain to him that is why we do load testing. All loads aren't created equal. They also shoot on the high school trap team and I have to constantly remind them that shotgun trigger pull and rifle trigger pull are not the same thing.

Loaded up some 175 ABLRs last night to try in the 28 Nosler. Hopefully I can have the same luck there.

When I ran the 284 down the range with the updated G7 from Applied Ballistics it matched up pretty dang close to what I was seeing on the steel. I believe that the 284 Win is a 1:9 and the 6.5 PRC is a 1:8, so for the weight of bullets I'm shooting in them, they are spinning plenty fast. You may be on to something there.
