Bought myelf a new( to me)rifle in a new (to me) caliber So far its a great one. I don't say great about to many rifles but I am here.
Its a ruger #1B in 6mm Remington.
it came with a older leupold VX2 3X9. The forend hanger has been reworked , by redrilling the stud for a verticle screw rather than the factory angled one and the forend is glass bedded.
whoever did the job did it very professionaly from the inside, but the putty job on the old stock hole rather sucks. But That is no problem at all.
I boght a set of RCBS dies and using 80 remington brass I got with the rifle, and i bougt a box of winchester 100 grain power points, i loaded up some rounds and did some informal shooting off the hood of my truck.
The targets were at 80 105 and 140 paces from my truck. Every single load including the factory load shot very well.
I only shot about 6 rounds each of 4 different loads but when you consider I was shooting of a leather rifle rest stacked on top of a rifle case and 2 note books,
I am extreemly excited.
I am planning to shoot it at the range tommorow if the range is open.
I will let you know how she does.
One thing that suprised me quite a lot on my 1st shoot , was that I fired 2 loads at one target , at about 140 or more yards.
Both loads were with 100 grain bullets, one a flat base sierra the other
BT hornady.
One bullet was with 48.5 grains of IMR-7828 and the other 38 grains of IMR-4064. I expected two seperate groups, but of the six rounds fired, (3 each load,) 1 was a called flyer missed by a couple inches, the other 5 were clusterd ina .75 inch group.
I bought a box of 95 grain partitions , yesterday and loaded 10 of them under IMR-4831.
I will let you know how she does.
