Grr... I have it bad....

Rod you know how Remington screwed-up when they came out with the 6mm Remington with the 1-12" twist and it would not for the most part stabalize the longer 100 gr. bullets. Finally they saw the error of their ways and went with the 1-9 1/4" twist. It shoots the 100 grain or heavier bullets great, yet also seems to shoot the lighter weight bullets just as well. Maybe in this case the 1-8.75" twist on the 7x57 will just fine if you want to shoot the 150 or 160 grain bullets, but just like you, I would probably load something like the 140 gr. AccuBond for everything, or maybe a good 120 gr. bullet. I don't know why it would not work. I'm posing this question to the folks at Ruger and see what their ballistic experts have to say on that subject. Seems like most of the 7mm's of one type or another are in the twist rate of 1-9" or somewhere there and I believe my .280 shot wonderfully with 140 gr. Partitions or Accubonds. Don't let that 1/4" scare you sir. Like I said, I'm posing this question to Ruger to ask their perspective and thoughts on it. Here's what the Nosler #6 shows.
7mm-08 1-9"
7x57 1-9"
284 Win 1-9"
280 1-9"
280 AI 1-9"
7 Rem SAUM 1-9 1/2" I believe I detect a pattern and MOST are only .25" slower than the twist that Ruger chose for the 7x57, and not the 1-12" to 1-10" comparison
7 WSM 1-9.5" between the 6mm and the 243 when they first came out. Now that's a huge difference. I just wonder if this will make it not shoot those 120-140
7 Rem mag 1-9" grain bullets very very nicely? Just a thought :!:   Go get-em RADD!
7 Weatherby 1-9"
7 STW 1-9"
7 Rem Ultra 1-9"

6mm,

To sum it up, I have found out that Ruger has designed that rifle after the original 7mm loading and that is long, round nose 175gr bullets. So it is twisted and also throated that way.

To shoot the size bullets I wish to utilize I think the 270 in #1 line would be better suited for my purpose. And those just happen to be in the 120-140 range, so with the classic 130 grain bullet in the 270, I would be better served...

I have experienced a not enough twist scenario. And by that I mean not twisted a half inch less than suggested to make a huge difference in my bullet selection.. So I am on guard and listen to the barrel mfg's suggested twist for specific bullet application.... However, I do thank you for taking the time to post your research tho..

It's too bad they chose to go that route with the 7x57 as it's a great cartridge and should not be handicapped like they did to it throating it and giving it the twist for the long and slow 175 grain round-nose bullets when it's chambered in a modern classic like the Ruger #1 that can handle any pressures you throw it's way. You cannot go wrong with the .270, and it will be plenty fast even with the shorter 22" barrel. That 130 gr. AccuBond would be terrific out of it.
