In a crowded safe, are gun socks a good idea to prevent scratches?

If so, what is your favorite fabric? Absorbent cotton or hydrophobic polyester?

Safe is not in a commonly humid climate.

Polyester is probably better I would think because it won't hold moister near the gun as much? I have thought about making a waxed canvas sleeve for my shotgun when I don't want it to get wet outdoors, that might be good for in a safe too. Anything is probably OK if the safe itself isn't humid. The best thing would be wool, but that is probably unecessarily expensive.

I have the same issue of a tightly cramped space where they all touch against each other with significant weight and force so my storage method to prevent rust and damage is each gun is first covered in a silicone treated gun sock (polyester & cotton) and then zipped up in a soft case. Everything is well oiled of course with Clenzoil but I am transitioning to Ballistol for non-toxicity and Frog Lube for lubricating moving parts.

I also use Ballistol, and have Frog Lube, although I don't find Frog Lube to be as convenient to use for my maintenance methods. Love the smell of Frog Lube so much though. I want to get some Slip 2000 gun oil, it is synthetic high performance stuff, but non-toxic and eco-friendly.

I also found a product that is an alternative to Ballistol that has no significant odor, it is from the U.K. and is becoming availible in the U.S. some time this year. I have to look up the name again, but it has replaced multiple products that the U.K. military had been using before.
