H&R 176

This estate auction had 30 some firearms and all were in new condition. The old timer sure knew how to take care of them. I was also looking at a pair of Savage/ Stevens bolt actions , they sold for double what I payed for my 30-30. However they looked fresh out of the box.

Nice find and beautiful wood. . I had a 10 gauge Browning BPS that I had bought like 35 years ago for ducks and geese. I believe it had a 30 inch barrel with choke tubes, and that thing kicked like a horse. I have shot 766 grain rifled slugs out of it. I would shoot a few of these and it would rattle my cage, imagine the recoil a single shot 10 gauge can give. 😁

Kinda gives me the shudders.

My scale was acting up , but it show 10lbs. I don’t believe the recoil will be no worst than 300 magnum rifle that weighs around 9lbs. I may need to correct that statement after I fire a few rounds thru it😁

The single shot reminded me of my old 12 gauge single shot with a hard plastic buttplate, it would leave purple welts, lol. It was light.

A great purchase you made. That shotgun is excellent for long range waterfowl shooting. I have a few 10 gauges, and they are very versatile shotguns, definitely not outdated in this day and age as some would claim.

Don't let the recoil discourage you. It is more of a push-back rather than a sharp snap-back like with many rifles.

I found it patterns a little loose at 40 yds with the Federal turkey loads. Will be trying other brands to see if it tightens up. As far as recoil weighing in at 10lbs eats that up.
