H450

I have an older buddy that asked me if I had info on H450 powder . He was gifted a sealed 8 pound jug . I have info in my one old book I can share with him . what have you guys found H450 works well in ? I never used it .

I see it listed in volume 4 Hornady, cartridges like 6.5x55, 264wm and 270 7x61 sharp and hart and 7mag. Ive never used it

I would think anything that IMR 4350 works well in. Some that come to mind that I've used or loaded for, 243, 6mm, 250 Savage, 257 Roberts, 30-06, 348.

I haven't loaded for them with IMR 4350, but I'm sure you could throw a 25-06, 7mm-08, and a 270 into that mix as well as some others I'm not thinking of. 4350 is a burn rate that covers a lot of cartridges. Not that they will shoot exactly the same or produce the same velocities, but in general the biggest difference between IMR 4350 and H4350 is the supposed superior temp stability with H4350.

Sorry, read it too quick. I see you posted H450, not 4350. Big difference. Ignore my ramblings. Ha.

Pretty sure a guy I know it is or was his favorite powder for a 300 WM if he still has any left, which would make sense if it's close to 4831. I'll probably be seeing him later on this afternoon, I'll ask him.

I used it in 150gr 30-06 loads. If I remember correctly it had a steep and sudden pressure issue, a short fuse so to speak.

I talked to him, it's a 300 Weatherby mag not 300 WM. He uses H450 with the Sierra 165 GK hollow point.

Years ago, I used H450 with a Sierra 85gr HPBT in a 243. Got good groups but was primer sensitive in my rifle. Swapped primers but kept everything else the same and the groups opened up quite a bit. Don't remember the amount of powder used, been too long ago. Like the way it flowed thru the powder measure being a ball powder as they do. Dan.

thanks for the info Fellas . I did find an old powder chart that showed H450 right with H4831 . I think I can get him going between my old book , and the H4831 info . when he was telling me about the powder he said the 8 pound jug has a $69.95 price on it .
