Heat treatment for case necks

Since I had some neck cracks on few (too many) of my cases, I would like to try to "treat them".
Before giving it a try, I'd like to get some hints from those of you Guys who already have experience in this practice.

The caliber I need to work on is the 6,5x57R, very similar case to the .260 REM.

My idea would be to sink the cases up to the shoulder and then get close to them with the (I don't know its english name... ) ....well, its like a little gun that uses a small gas tank underneath...

But....How do I properly do this?
I am afraid it is easy to overheat them and burn them out.
When done, should I drop them in cold water for the treatment to complete?

Too many doubts, please help

Thanks

Annealing is the process you are talking about. Much has been written about the process on various loading sites. Don't know if it has been discussed here, a search should tell you. If not do a search at 24 hour campfire or the reloading bench. A propane tourch is the item you are refering to.
Ken Howell has info on the process in his book on forming custom cartridges.Rick.
