Heavily Copper Fouled Barrel Help

Glad to see you using Wipe-Out and that it cleaned the fouling for you!

Let us know how it shoots. I've had a few rifles (Mil-surplus) that look like your first picture; after a cleaning or two with Wipe-Out the accuracy has always come back for me. I would guess that the bore has had a few hundred rounds between copper cleanings. Different bullets and bores foul differently; but normally an M1 Garand will fire a few 72 round strings before fouling up like the WIN and have a noticeable deterioration of accuracy with government issued M2 ammo.

If Wipe-Out worked and the accuracy has returned, than I really don't think you have a bad or damaged bore that needs JB paste / Kroil or other aggressive measures.

Just FYI - my routine is to use Hoppes #9 between outings (with a soak time of an hour or overnight) and Wipe-Out after every 3rd-6th outing; or every outing if doing load development. I have bottles of and have used CR-10, Mpro-7 copper remover and JB paste / Kroil, but personally believe that Wipe-Out is easier and takes less time.

Took it to the range today with the same load I've been loading for him for three years (130 Speer Spitzer BTSP, 55.3gr IMR 4831, CCI LR, Win Brass, COAL 3.240")

Dang, nothing to complain about there!

True..And when the Dyna-Tek Bore Coat arrives I'm going to treat it and send it home to him..

Nice. That's definitely not a stinker, prone to foul or not.

It's always been a good shooter, and just a Nikon Prostaff 3-9x40 on it..Not saying the Speer is a bad bullet, because it's certainly accurate and does fine on deer/bear, but I've always been curious what his rifle would do with a scope upgrade and an AccuBond, Scirocco, Interbond, Ballistic Tip, etc. But he's quite satisfied with the scope and how well the Speer shoots and kills game, and always gives me the "Nah, I'm good" when I bring it up.

Ha, I’ve heard the same. We are always looking for the next best thing... I know I can’t hardly use the same thing 2X. Ha
