Hey David!!!

Dang that's pretty darn close. I really want the controlled round feed though and that looks like a push feed to me. Still a pretty sweet looking rifle!! Thanks for remembering my little dream I have going here.

David

Oh, my, is that ever attractive. David, you need to jump on that like a chicken on a June bug.

Dang! I missed that it was a push feed on this little phone screen I have. My bust. The search continues!

Dodged a bullet on that one!! Have decided I must have a CRF Winchester.

That'll be worth waiting for. I don't mind the push feeders one bit, but I do like the Classics and newer FN's as well. Trevor, over on LEL might have a lead of a Pre64 30-06 going for a decent price. That would make for a slick action for your build.

Man that is a really nice looking rifle and Ruger sure builds a stout one at that. Sure wish they had 24" barrels on them though.

Sounds like a custom build then to me.

Here's a nice starting point. Might as well blow the shoulder out.

I'm afraid my stubborn mind is set. I want my first controlled round feed Winchester, 24" barrel, 280 Remington, wood stock either walnut or nutmeg laminate (pillar & glass bedded), and the old style Winchester trigger before they felt they needed to fix it. :x Scopes I think I might jump ship and go from my usual fixed power to a variable if you can believe it!! I was thinking the Zeiss HD 3-15x42mm with the Z600 reticle.

That's an awesome combo David and I can really see a guy really liking to hunt with that combo. It all sounds like a perfect combo.

Cool sounds like a plan. That action would be a great starting point Pre-64 can't get better than that!!

Look hard and long at those CRF Winchesters. Some are GREAT!

Then there are some others... Time to time a Win 70 needs a little work to be 100% reliable, but it's not a hard thing to accomplish.

Have you considered a Montana CRF action instead? It's pretty much a clone of the Winchester, but cast. Readily available and you could just build from a brand new action, made right in your home state! Screw on a Lilja barrel, also made in Montana... you'd really have a neat Montana rifle for Montana hunting!

Guy

Not at all a bad suggestion, Guy. There is something to be said for building with local components.

Those are a couple of beautiful rifles, Jake. That Custom Shop job would be a very handsome addition.

I've thought about that Guy. I'm not sure why I am balking on them right now as I was considering that approach for sure. They are a "cast" action and the more I got to thinking, the more I wanted one made from one solid piece, and my understanding at least is the fact that I heard Remington purchased this company. Now that being said I can't see these guys in Kalispell making anything other than a stellar product.

Jake sure helped out with a couple nice ones he found too!!
