Hog/big game crumpler

I just talked to a dealer in TN that can have it shipped to my local FFL for just under $450.

That is pretty good. Plus, you would be covered for just about anything short of well? Heck, you would be covered for everything!

I need the best price I can find. It brings to mind a thread that was up here a while back about the total cost of a new rifle... Bases, rings, scope, dies, components $$$$$

Ask in the classified section to see if someone has some of these items to help allay costs. Many times, you will be able to pick up used bases and rings, or dies at quite reasonable cost.

Good point, DrMike.

I know I come across as really having it together  , but I actually hadn't ( yet) thought of that.

That's a great idea and 338 stuff is pretty common around here. I have a set of Remington rings and bases that should work on a Savage if you need em!

That would be great! This whole deal is hinged upon my selling the TC encore, barrel or both. I'm really hoping to make it happen by the first part of next week. We shall see, but if it comes together, I will get back to you about the rings and bases.

Thank you,
Tony

Cool rifle for sure and a 338 Win Mag will make it a versatile rig.

As already mentioned, don't overlook a Marlin 1895 Guide gun in 45-70. It is indeed a hammer on hogs.

Since I'm starting from scratch in the powder department, I'm hoping to start out with as few as possible.

For fun ( and serious research of course  ) I'm looking at powders that will work for both my .270 with 140grn ABs and a .338wm with 250grn AB or PT. There are quite a few.

Im looking at H and IMR 4831 and 4350. Also R22.
Any recomendations???

I would look at H4831 for the 270 Win and 338 Win Mag.

One of the 4350's would fit the bill as well maybe a touch fast for a 270 but still good for both.

Man, I can't help but recommend RL19 for the 338 buddy.. It has shot so well in just about every 338 I have seen and my own, that it is a top performer in both speed and accuracy. If I had to pick one for both, H4831 would be it. Not quite as fast in my rifle, but still excellent accuracy. I think IMR4350 is a good one in both as well too..

I'll definitely check in to R19. I'm not necessarily trying to have one powder for all, but can't afford to buy many.

Widgeon,

Any medium burn powder at the slower end of the range should serve you well in the 338 WM. As has been stated already, ReLoder 19 and either of the 4831s (and A3100 if you can find any) will give you excellent results in that cartridge.

I'm sure the rings will work, but the bases probably won't. Aren't the new Savages fully round bridges, front and rear? Regardless, I suspect you can find some bases pretty cheap. Depending on which rings you can get (from Scotty or someone else) you could get bases for under $15 from MidsouthShootersSupply.com. I've done a ton of business with them and they're terrific, with excellent pricing. Dies, brass, bullets, bases, etc., and suddenly the shipping costs are amortized across enough stuff to make it worthwhile! Just think of the money you'll be saving in this exercise! It's almost too good to be true!

Oh, this is great! My wife will be so happy to hear that I can buy a new rifle and SAVE money.

That's what we're here for!

Problem solvers! Didn't know you had a problem? Just ask and we'll help you find one. Then, we can recommend a way to fix the problem you didn't know you had. Funny, though, that the fix almost always entails securing another rifle.

Got some great news today that will more than likely lead to no new rifles (after this one) in my near future.

Guesses?
