Hogs coming up north?

I know that Texas is overrun and was wondering if anyone knew how far north have the swine reached?
Last time I read something they were in southern Colorado.

I encounter feral hogs here in northern BC from time-to-time; it would not surprise me greatly were they to be in Wyoming in smaller numbers. Those up here are escapees from farms. I've seen a few European swine that were obviously escapees. I have never seen one when I had a rifle in my hands, however.

Someone brought some to southern Idaho and Fish and Game are trying their best to eradicate them before they become a problem like everywhere else.

Hope they get them all.

I do love hog hunting but in Texas it should be free....... but they charge you an arm and a leg.

Fotis,

MI has had a slight problem the last few years. DNR has been educating hunters to shoot them on sight.

I wish a couple would show up out back. The 45-70 would get some action. :)

No JD you really don't.
They are in direct competition for food with the deer herd.More than one good deer hunting area here has gone to hell in a handbasket as a result of the hog problem.
Couple that with the damage they cause to fences, plowed fields and generally anything else they come into contact with and they truly are a nuisanace.
Couple that with the fact they breed and have litters of 10-12 piglets about three times a year and in no time they will overtake and eat every other native game species in the area.
Now, not saying they aren't fun to hunt, and they do make fine table fare, but once you have them on a piece of property they are damn near impossible to eradicate.

Buddy of ours down here has the right idea.

We have them in Southern Missouri and the DNR has issued a " kill on sight" order to all hunters.

DNR actually caught two yahoos on a county road not far from our lease in Vernon County with a trailer full of hogs they released.
The wardens opened up on the hogs with rifles and killed about ten of them before they could get across a corn field and into the river bottoms.
The two yahoos were arrested on the spot.

I'm under the weather right now...... recovering from minor surgery adn wife will not allow me in the woods until the Doc gives the all clear....

BUT...... once able....back in I go looking for the critters......

Will keep you all posted and if I can locate a large pack of them..... I'll invite anyone wanting to join up.... to do so......

And all it will cost you is time..... travel..... lodging (motel of your choice) and license. No charge for guiding and such....... we need them gone too.

It would not be a canned hunt as you see folks being charged for...... tis why they call it hunting.
