That’s just robberyIn the last three years it has gone from two Grand to Nine grand and up.
Jim, this is a big topic in Florida. The Roofers (independent companies) will knock on your door telling you that you have roof damage (usually hail damage) and say that they can get you a new roof through your insurance company. "they will handle all the details" My neighbor was approached and told he had hail damage and they will get a "great deal" for him. He said OK and they gave him a $26.000.00 metal roof courtesy of the insurance company for only $2200.00 dollars. I don't know what his new insurance premium is. This is happening all over the state. And since you are/were such a good customer, we/they decided to stick it to ya.
Typical insurance companies.
BTW, what's the deal with the roof scammers? They contact you, say you have roof damage from the storm last summer and you don't have to pay much. Your insurance will cover it.

That's exactly what I am talking about. I have 3 nephews that are working that gig. They all make big money and drive flashy cars.Jim, this is a big topic in Florida. But is it really a scam? The insurance adjuster still has to sign off on the claim, and then the company has to approve the work and payment. That's exactly what I am talking about. I have 3 nephews that are working that gig. They all make big money and drive flashy cars.
My daughter needed a new roof last year and spent the money on the getting a new roof the honest way.

I don't fully understand how it works. These roofing companies do all the leg work. Homeowner pays the deductible and gets a new roof. But is it really a scam? The insurance adjuster still has to sign off on the claim, and then the company has to approve the work and payment.
Not just in Florida, I see the fliers in my mailbox after every bad thunderstorm. Is it a scam? I don't think so, in the sense that everything they do is legal (assuming they aren't putting fraudulent information on the forms). My understanding is that it's more like they know how to work the system to get the maximum amount of money. The homeowner gets a new roof for cost of deductible, the roofer makes a fat load of cash off the construction, the adjuster gets a cut. Everyone feels happy about it when it happens. Of course, then the insurance premium increases happen.I don't fully understand how it works. These roofing companies do all the leg work. Homeowner pays the deductible and gets a new roof.
BTW, 2 nephews also have an adjusting company so they double dip. They live lavish lifestyles.

Bruce this is the way my auto ins works now . so far I don't think my info is being sold , at least I haven't noticed anything . I switched to state farm about 2 years ago . I had to put a state farm app on my cell phone . I carry a small gizmo in my truck . it tracks my every move . I'm not happy about it tracking me . it is supposed to give a discount , for being a safe driver . after two years I still have not received a discount the app says I'm owed . when I pay my next bill , I'll have to ask about how this works . this thing tracks very accurately . you can bring up a map of a trip , and it will show you where you got penalized . close to my house there is a steep down hill , with a stop sign at the bottom . when I go down this hill it hits me with a harsh braking penalty . the other day the roads were slippery . when I pulled out from a stop my truck spun and fishtailed just a little , BAM I got hit with an acceleration penalty . at first I worried about the penalties , now I just drive . I think it's pretty much a joke .Texas AG Paxton has filed suit against Allstate for planting tracking software on customer's cell phones and then collecting and selling the data collected to other insurance companies, which is a violation of state statute.
When you have the roofer walking around on your roof and he has a hammer in his back pocket you can be assured it's there for no good reason. The insurance company approves the work and then jacks your rates up to never never land. They never lose. You have to remember the insurance company is in the business to make money not spend money. But is it really a scam? The insurance adjuster still has to sign off on the claim, and then the company has to approve the work and payment.
you can bet they have nothing but MY best interests at heart .I wonder what is in all the fine print when you agree to put one of those in your vehicle.
I know we are being tracked when me or my two adult brothers get interested in a minority topic and somehow our mom starts getting adds for those things. Not a lot of people own handmade Japanese kitchen knives. I got into them and suddenly my mom gets hit with an add on her phone. OK, weird, but still slightly plausible, Japanese kitchen cutlery is getting a bit more popular. Then me and my older brother start looking into Chinese meditation and exercise, like Tai Chi and Qigong, not something a lot of Americans know anything about, then she gets a pop up of a guy doing Qigong. Yeah, that couldn't be a coincidence.Tracking has completely infiltrated so much of our lives. Phones, apps, useless crap in and on our vehicles. We get a monthly recap of EVERYTHING on my wife's car.
When sales reps come to see me, it isn't to sell me something, They actually ask if they can walk my shelves with an I-pad and record shelf placement of items. That's a hard no for me. They can pull any number of sales reports to see when I purchased an item. Data is the future. Google and Microsoft understood this years ago.
Ever notice how you look at something on the internet and 6 hours later you start receiving ads for the item you were interested in.
I'm likely going to sound a little like I'm going down a conspiracy rabbit hole, but this is real. We give up freedoms every day through the means that we've shared, all in the name of technology and convenience.
