I would like to do something with the triggers on my Rugers but am confused as to what to do. Do I try to hone them myself or do I buy a drop in Timney trigger for the rifle? Which one would give the best results with the least amount of skill. (I have never done a trigger job before)

For no more than a good smith charges to stone a trigger, I'd always let them do the work.

A trigger job is easy to do and also easy to screw up.
I recommend a Timney or take it to a smith to stone it.
All my Rugers have a Timney and I think they are a great trigger.

My smith stoned 3 of mine, they are 1.8lbs, 3.0lbs and 3.2lbs and they break like glass.

I put a spring and sear in my 77/22 and it is a whopping 1lb.

If you have a good smith close I would take it to him, mine charges $20.

Well I made 3 calls. One guy was not in and is out this week. The second wants $35 for a trigger job and the third guy wants $40 for the job. Both of those guys put new springs in and will take the 22-250 down to 3 lbs. I plan on doing the 22-250 first then the 30-06 after I see their quality. I am most likely going with the $40 guy because he is local and I only have to go a block to drop it off at the local bait shop. I think it is a fair price.

It will be 40.00 very well spent. I have seen lots of marginal rifles turn into great shooters with nothing other than a trigger job done to them. Scotty

+1

This is the first thing I do to every rifle I own, and it will be one of the first recommendations I make to people that are trying to wring accuracy out of their rifle.

Dang, I wish I could find somebody to do a trigger job for $40!

I'm gonna put a Timney in my 788, and a Jewell in my .204 M700.

I have a Jewell trigger in my custom Mauser and a Timney in my Weatherby Mark V. The Jewell is a better trigger but the Timney is less money. Installation, especially of the Timney is not difficult.

I like the Jewell myself. I have them in every 700 Rem. I own. I never had an issue myself, but since I saw the show about the Rem. 700 trigger problems I have had problems trusting them, so I change them out to Jewell's. For you guys who want the best price and do the work yourself as I do, here is a link to the best price I've found on the net. Although I don't believe they make one for Ruger.

http://greatscottshooters.com/trigger.htm You can give Larry a call, he is a very nice fellow and very knowledgeable about the Jewell triggers.

Yep, that's where I'm gonna order from. Just need to get around to doing it.
