The Hornady 265 FP was built for the .444 Marlin, so it could be too tough for a .44 Mag if you want an expanding bullet.
You might look in the bullet test section of this forum to find one that will suit you. The 240 hp or even a 240 speer hot core will do nicely
Hodgdon recommends 19.5-21.5gr H110 for the 270 GoldDot. That should get you started.I have some 265 FP Hornady also would like to try them in my 629 any luck on load data ?

I have a few 250 PT left but a unopened box of Hornady 265gr FN that has been on my shelf for years. I know it’s for the 444 but being a tough bullet might be good for Alaska big game in my SW 629 4”.I've had a lot of success with the Nosler 240 gr JHP and the discontinued 250 gr PT. Never needed a heavier bullet for anything I hunted.

I used the 265 grain Hornady in a 16 inch barreled Rossi and a 629 Smith with 6 inch barrel. I loaded 21.5 grains of 296 for 1,515 in the Rossi, but I haven't chronographed it in the 629. The load was a one-shot kill on a a very large 4X4 whitetail, and the exit wound through the off-side rib cage and shoulder indicated good expansion (I am sure the bullet was under the hide, but the butcher failed to recover it). I have also used the 300 grain Lee cast bullet with 18.5 gr. 4227 for 1,306 from the Rossi. These modest velocities compare well with a lot of the big bore black powder lever actions. With luck, I will know how the 265 grain works from the 629 in the next few weeks.I have a few 250 PT left but a unopened box of Hornady 265gr FN that has been on my shelf for years.
